Taking heat damage at 100%?

So I was doing one of my flyby fuel scooping by slinging around star at high speed and then I started to get heat damage at 100% heat. What? I looked at the patch notes, and it says nothing about starting to get heat damage when you reach 100% heat. Is this a bug or undocumented change?

It's a change. But they have scaled it so that everything causes less heat also. Basically if you are at 100% you are in a situation where you would have been at 150% pre patch.

you should be able scoop at 66% now at the same rate you used to be able to scoop at 100%.

There was plenty said on the forums before the patch. 65% is the new 100% so you don't want to go above 85% or you'll take damage.

I'm scooping right now, 81% heat and rising at 99% scoop rate. By the time I was finished filling the Clipper tank from almost nothing with a 4A Scoop, I was at 88% when it started dropping again. If you get 100% while scooping, you are too close.

No its a in game change before I thing we had to hit around 135- 140ish before we took heat damage now it happens at a 100 and moduals start taking damage. If your hitting that mark before you finish filling up you should probley upgrade to a A rank fuel scoop, they are expensive but fill the tank up fast. I don't think I ever had the temp hit above 80 using the A Class scoop.

Not quite, you don't want to go above 100% heat or you will slowly but surely start to accumulate damage to your systems. you could fly around at 99% and dip into 100% briefly and not take damage if lucky.

As for undocumented, it was stated that they were re-aligning the heat values, but it wasn't perhaps very clear what that meant from reading the patch notes alone.

But no information in patch notes.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. It would have been annoying to scoop my next star and take damage because I missed this change...

Have Fun,

I had to double-check the patch notes, but you're right: this significant (and deliberate) change to how heat works seems to have been skipped over in them.

Yes, it was deliberate: the way it's measured, and the way damage is applied, is different now. Modules start taking damage at 100%, and hull damage kicks in when you reach the top segment. But you should also notice that your idle temperature is, in percentage terms, lower.

I know I read a description from FD of how this all works, but you're right, it's completely absent from the patch notes.

My Asp used to run around 31% and could scoop @ near max fuel rate with 98% heat.

Now it runs at 21% and scoops max fuel rate with 60% heat (same setup I'm 24k ly's out).

Keep doing changes FD, refuelling was never hard and is now easier. Well done. Nice. Great.

When you go above 66% you start getting damage to modules and the price of wear and tear starts to accumulate. By 90%+ it is costing you loads of dosh and potential module troubles.

That's not my experience. Actually, it felt alot freer than it was in 1.1

I was out trading and was able to exit the station, boost, boost boost, jump without having to wait for my ship to cool down. It never reached 100% and never took any damage. - before, I'd have got warnings and maybe some damage if I'd done that.
Later on, I switched to my Asp, went out jumped scooped - letting the temp get up to the 90's and again, no damage taken. I went mining, and did some combat too with no damage from heat at all. The only damage that I took was from a brief period when my shields were taken out. That was about 300 credits worth, so wasn't really a big deal.

As for the heat 100% now means, don't go above this, which is more intuitive.
