Hardware & Technical Users System Specs

With the announcement of minimum specs for alpha, I thought it a good idea to start a public document to capture people's system specs and their results (FPS).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Akgw_h4nLN3DdGNBMTRSUUF6UWdGNWJrZjgyTTlibWc&usp=sharing

Obviously FD will do their own spec data gathering, but this document should serve as a resource for other players looking to compare specs with game performance.

Feel free to add your specs and then update as you get results from alpha/beta/gamma.

Nice initiative - already included my system details.

Just a small suggestion: add resolution to the graphical settings.

Another thing is that the GPU RAM speed in Mhz is a bit useless without the bus width - while most CPUs will have a dual 64 data bus (with the possible exceptions of the 1366 and 2011 based systems), current graphic cards have everything from 64 bit to 512 bit (128, 192,256, 384). Problem is that many people simply don't know their card bus width is :).

Good idea!

I'll add my details when I know them - the laptop for Alpha should arrive this afternoon! :) I was a little scared when I saw QuadCore at 2GHz and higher but it'll meet those requirements so it might be an interesting test for people buying hardware six months from now (when such things come with tokens from cornflake packets).

[EDIT]

Done - from the order form. It was a a little freaky to see the spreadsheet taking shape while I was typing. I've had to guess at GPU RAM speed based on an Internet article. If I've read it incorrectly then the fault is mine.

I can't find the announcement. Could you please give me a link?

It's in the private backers forum, where all alpha backers can see it http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8598

However, in summary:

To play the first build released in December we're currently looking at the following:

Direct X 11
Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum)
2 GB System Ram (more is always better)
DX 10 hardware GPU (my reasonably low end machine has a GTX 285 with 2GB)

As I say we're looking to try and reduce the spec if possible through detail options and optimisations, so the final min spec for the game should be lower than that stated above, but for the initial alpha tests you'll need to be in that range.

I'm still waiting for a last few pieces to arrive for my new system build, but I've posted the specs of what it should be. This spreadsheet should be a useful resource for those waiting until beta/gamma to upgrade, so thanks for posting it up.

Would it be worth recording data like CPU load along with FPS? I know not really useful for deciding on a spec for a machine but may be useful in testing.

There is some serious hardware on that spreadsheet. ED clearly appeals to those with a passion for hardware ;p

What are you guys thoughts on the GTX560 TI, I feel it is the bottle neck in my system, do you feel it would be worth an upgrade specifically for ED?

Cheers

I had a GTX560Ti for ages and really liked it; great card. I ended up replacing it to play Witcher2 and other games at full tilt. I think an upgrade to a more powerful card will be a good investment given that E D will roll out several updates in years to come, some of which (like planetary landings and whatnot) will be big draws on systems I'm sure. Just my two cents ;)
