I appreciate I'm going against the flow here, but I've no problem with this.

I wouldn't use it, as I would rather enjoy the journey and reap the satisfaction of 'climbing into' my hard won new purchase, and so I don't mind the spending the time it would take me.

However I can see for some players, who are not time-rich, being unable to reach their ship of choice for any foreseeable future may prove a disincentive to play.

So, if they want to spend more, and in the process fund ED's continued development, then I'm genuinely not bothered.

If some people wish to pay real cash for a ship, where's the harm? It won't affect my game. However, I can't see the point myself. The idea of ED is to choose your path and earn credits in game to attain your goal(s). At its more basic level, this is what the franchise is about. Also, if you could buy a ship as an MT, then where does it end? You need to kit it out, but what about ship components? Will they be available as an MT too? If not, back to the grind. FD may be enticed at the thought of extra income, but would it be part of their vision for ED? And, if they are introduced as MTs, then they should also be freely available in game for those people who wish to play ED as FD intended. In respect of this, I can't see FD doing that ... last famous words! :)

No thank you with the Pay-to-$$$ (whatever word you would like to put in place of the $ sign). The only "pay-to" model should be pay to play (ie. buy the game) or pay to look sexy ;).

As regards solo mode only. The BG sim is still linked to open and group players, so a sudden influx of anacondas or T9 will seriously affect trading in the game in certain systems. Then you also have community goals. Also, there would be nothing stopping a paid for solo Anaconda/T9 being used to make credits fast so an open or group play anaconda could be bought.

So, no thank you.

You mean after I paid £40 for the frikkin game you want me to pay more just to play it quicker? No ' way!

edit: Not to mention the opportunity by FD to make the grind even harder just to make you buy the ships. If this was F2P from the start they might get away with the model but after paying top dollar there's no way in hell you're going to get people paying more - as if the grind isn't bad enough as it is!

I think that some ships, or some versions of ships, should be unlockable or purchasable via microtransaction. I'm plenty happy that we're not going that route yet, but if the sales of paint jobs and T-shirts slows down, such things would be an idea to explore.

Hi All
.
Some people have lots of time.......and maybe not so much money?........for them, they can grind their way to new ships.........and to mention Payable downloads is like the ultimate sin.......
.
For myself, I am sat in front of a machine for my working day, and I have no desire to "grind" in front of one in the evenings.......have fun? yes...grind? no chance........however, I do have pleanty of real world credits, called "pounds".....
.
Any chance that FD can sell the ships in the store for people who do not have the time to grind out millions of credits? I have some REAL credits you can have instead.......
.
I dont see buying the ships as "Pay to Win".....as others can just grind to the same ship, there is no "bonus weapon" for a cash purchase.....just simple logic......some people have time and can grind, some people dont have the time but have cash......can FD please all?
.
Cheers.

If you want pay to win, go play Star Trek, you'll fit right in. Please don't ask a company to open a system in which you get to pay for extra yards on the field when there are THOUSANDS of MMO's out there that already do this and have a member longevity of about 2 months.

Pay 2 Win = any shortcut provided to those who specifically pay for said short-cut. Ships, Items, Credit Boosters, etc = Pay 2 Win.

Don't have time? Neither do most of us, even those of us with wallets they aren't as endless as yours obvious are. What about those folks? Is it fair to them they don't have the money and the time? So suppose you get your pay for ships, what's next? Pay for credits? Pay for map-moves to any system on the galaxy map? Pay for god items? Where does it stop? No where -- when you go barreling down that slippery slope there is no return, there is no reverse, and there is no stop. See that ~80% that voted no? They quit the game -- instantly because the game because unfair and prejudice to the wealthy (or fiscally irresponsible) just as sudden. Its like sitting down to play a game of monopoly, and suddenly I give the banker $20.00 USD to give me boardwalk for every game thereafter; instant repulsion, people get up and leave no matter how much they love playing monopoly.

FACT: every single MMO that has gone P2W has gone in the crapper within just a few weeks. Ask me and I can give you a 2 page list. If you don't believe that's the case, then tell you what, how about you ask for an alternate "open play" server where you can have your little phallic wallet battles. See how many plays with you there and then come back and tell me how much of a great idea you had.

Obviously this isn't my game, I can't tell frontier what to do, but I can ask that you please don't ask for pay 2 win -- please don't ask for anything in this game that would give someone with deep pockets an advantage to those less fortunate.

sale of skins slowing down?
they don't even need the sales at the moment... else there would be something to buy ;)

Our fav dev, Sandro. The idea is that the best bits of the game are achieved by playing the game, not by buying them with credits purchased in the store. Microtransactions defeats this is the argument there.

He clearly said that he was expressing his personal opinion and we all know that coders aren't those who can make this kind of (business) decision. He also said something about allowing players to buy planets, now how does that fit into the Elite's lore? ;)

So unless Braben steps up and tells us that it's not going to be possible to buy ANY ship for cash, EVER, in ANY form or shape, I'm going to expect that to happen sooner or later. Which would be right thing to do: more money for FDEV to expand and develop ED, more happy players, nobody is really affected in a negative way.

Maybe in a couple of months. But I'd say their sales of skins sky rocketed yesterday. Myself; as soon as I checked out the debug camera, I immediately went to the store and bought the Horus pack for my Asp.

I'd hazard a guess that I wasn't alone in this thinking ;).

Hell guys, stop going at each other, we are playing the same game, debate the point, don't fight the player!

I see some pretty strongly held feelings on microtransactions, some points for and against. As I have said before I don't really care that much, I do think it will inevitably happen.

But the attacks on each other over something like this, sorry if thats what the Elite player base is becoming, that will destroy Elite way before microtransactions ever do

Then you crash the ship and don't have enough money for insurance and come on the forum whining about how you paid real money to own the best ship for 5 minutes...

No.

Definitely agree.

No. I hate real world purchases in games..many have them but I just hate it..especially in any online form of game. You can debate the fairness of it all day but nothing will ever convince me that it is fair.

No way. It would be just like COD and Battlefield etc, where you earned your stripes going through the ranks and getting better weapons, only for them to release an ' upgrade pack' where anyone could have the best equipment from day one by paying £30. Ruined any sense of achievement or respect for other players.

Anyone who is too impatient to do it properly is in the wrong game IMO.

FD said they are looking at allowing real money to by CR. So there will be no need to sell ships for real money since you can use CR in game that were purchased with RM.

Hey, OP, do you think they should sell Elite status in the cash store, too?

ITT: Passive-aggressive straw man poll that has nothing to do with the OP's rehashed talking points. Would fit in well with American talk radio.

Citation please. I would like to know now if this is fact as I know about 53 people who will quit instantly including myself, as the threat alone of getting a guild financially and time invested into a new MMO to have it flip pay2win is enough warrant us pulling up roots and finding another MMO to back.

Too late. It has been like this for months.

NO thanks. No pay-to-win in this game, ever.

Anyway, the results of this poll show the community's opinion on this.
