Finally appreciate the Viper :)

Am a latecomer to the Viper, own pretty much every ship in game now except the new ships. Have bought quite a few Vipers in the past, always end up leaving it in the station because I couldn't stand the cockpit in the DK2, all the other ships are amazing in virtual reality, to me the Viper felt like sitting in a trash can, no real character to the ship.

Well I was a complete fool! Whilst out shopping for a Vulture I decided to take one of my Vipers and stick with it on the 100LY journey to pick up the Vulture. The ship is a beast :) Growls like a wounded tiger and kicks ass in all the RES sites I have visited while enroute. Fly's and lands beutifully with FA OFF. 100LY later and the cockpit has grown on me

Am sure this is all obvious to seasoned Viper pilots, but for me it's great to know that after spending hundreds of millions on the big ships, I can jump into something like this and get a huge grin on my face. This is a muscle car with guns welded to the front :D

For those in a hurry to buy the heavy hitters like the Python/Anaconda, yes they are great, but I still have a blast in my Cobra, my Eagle comes out sometimes for some crazy asteroid flying, and now my Viper's will see a lot of action going forward.. insurance is cheap, time for some suicide SSS adventures :)

It's a great ship, and the sound is possibly the best part. Howls like a screaming banshee when dropping from SC. I'll own a Vulture soon, but I will never sell my Viper.

Viper is awesome, but still, try out Vulture, it's Viper's big brother :)

I was skeptical about Vulture at first, but after these few days, it's awesome ship! Large weps pop everything quickly, even Anacondas and ship maneuvers like dream, stops and turns much better than other ships I've tried (yes, even trusty old Viper!) and I don't yet even have best thrusters.

I've kitted my Viper to fight across populated space. With an A3 fuel scoop, it sails across the stars bringing freedom and justice to all (yes, big stinking flag of the USA plastered on it :D )

I too ignored it for the longest time as I was mostly focused on building my exploration Asp. After having traveled thousands of light years in the space cow, hopping in the Viper was like enjoying flying for the first time again.

For now, I keep it parked in my home system. Ready to fight back invaders.

The Viper is my favorite ship. Its like the F16. its not the best plane but it will get the job done.

that's including having the FDL and lots of other ships in my hanger.

If you think the viper is a muscle car with guns strapped to it, you're going to love the vulture when you get around to flying it.

Despite the poor barely adequate field of view from the cockpit the Viper is an awesome and for seasoned pilots, disposable ship. It doesn't have the best turn rate but that can usually be overcome with it's quick response and FA off. When combined with excellent shields and some initial careful energy set up it packs a punch too.

I'd like to fly the cobra more but the kitted out Viper is much more sturdy and inexpensive to use on a per job basis as needed.

Yes I flew the Vulture in Beta, great ship :) I bought one last night. It is amazing and handles very well. But again I'm not too fond of the Cockpit in the DK2. In VR you really have to love the cockpit or it's not fun, kinda like sitting in a nice car at a showroom and not falling in love with it. The Eagle for me is the best fighter cockpit in Virtual reality, it feels like a fighter jet.

The viper, specifically its noise, is the reason I'm struggling to leave "upgrade" to the Cobra - it just makes the Cobra feel dull and boring - of course this is seriously stunting my career development....

I can imagine the VR makes a big difference, compared to a fixed view on a single screen. Would really like to get a chance to try it someday. The Vulture would have even better visibility if it didn't have those "pincers" at the front of it.

Viper is a fantastic ship for the price. The Vulture is a definite upgrade, but a fully pimped Viper is still an absolute beast.

Whats the best setup for combat? I am in a Cobra and too would like to try it out for combat. Is it better then an A cobra with beams and MC's?

What I like about the Viper is that it is the biggest ship that doesn't (noticeably) drift when cornering. That's quite neat for flying around at top speed in RES sites (and also makes boosting into and out of stations a lot of fun). The slim profile means you can fit it through the narrowest cracks (again useful when entering and leaving stations....T9 heading your way? Not a problem.)

It is a bit energy starved, but for such a low cost ship that's OK.

Medium beams and small MCs works well. The advantage of the Viper is that you can go all fixed (for the Cobra fixed on the wings is tricky). With the better maneouverability you can also get the fixed weapons more easily on target.

THIS!

As of last night I actually now have 2 Vipers :) Utterly brilliant ship. I can't wait to try a Vulture too.

On my Viper I have:
1 x A3 Power Generator
1 x A3 Power Distributor
1 x A3 Shield Generator
Maxed out cargo hull and military armour
Basic full scoop, discovery scanner and a medium frame drive
I have two moderate lasers and multi-cannons on the front
2 x A0 Shield Boosters (on utility turrets) which combined boost my shields by 40%
Power Usage = 11.96MW and my Power Output is 12MW
.
Let me just say my viper is practically invincible. I took down an Anaconda armed to the teeth last night with it. I also no longer fear being in dogfights with 2 or 3 ships at a time.

Tried the Vulture myself, I didn't like it - may try again at some point.
The Viper though, I love it (along with the Eagle). Signature features for me are strong shields, decent hull (when upgraded) so good survivability, decent speed & maneuverability, and excellent convergence on the weapons hardpoints so fixed lasers are great.
The only downside is the low-ish jump range and fuel-tank size - but then, this is a not an exploration ship, and the core populated systems can easily be traversed in the Viper.

A more effective killer than the Eagle, but I still love the Eagle because it is such a joy to fly.
