Question to DEVs: When will Direct HMD be available?

I have recently bought the Oculus DK2 (because I am programming) and decided to look for games that support the VR goggles. I have to say, the Elite : Dangerous version of handling this is rather disappointing. Basically, I have Major hese three major points:

  • First: I need to use the Extended Mode to use the DK2 at all. Why can't ED use the Option that almost every other game out there uses?

  • Second: Moving my head will only tilt the camera. My head seems to be fixed in place. Moving it forward (i.e. to better read what's on a display) is absolutely not possible and quite disrupts the gameplay.

  • Third: Can someone tell me how to make stuff readable through the VR? Everything but the titles are illegible.

Every other game? I don't know any other commercial games that officially support the DK2. You mean all the demos? Elite Dangerous is a totally different beast to the hundreds of demos out there 95% of which were made in Unity and can hardly be compared with the complexity of Elite Dangerous. Anyway, extended Mode isn't any worse than Direct Mode. The last reported reason for Direct Mode not working was that Frontier were working with Oculus to resolve some problems.

You obviously have it set up wrong. I have no problem with head tracking.

I don't know if you are exaggerating a little but, again.. you probably have something configured wrong. I find Elite Dangerous in the DK2 to be far from illegible. However, there are UI modifications you can make to change the colour to make further improvements.

At the GDC, Oculus hinted that Direct Mode would be replaced by something implemented at graphics driver level, like Direct to Display in AMD's LiquidVR, so I guess Frontier will wait for it.

Sorry, I meant to say the other games I came across so far. There's even a game on Steam (A game called "Shufflepuck Cantina") that supports this. Yes, it is not as complex. But it's out there, considers itself as "final", and it works..

The way I see it, FD didn't Have to do this at all. The fact that they've taken it as far as it is now is something I'm grateful of.
