Hello my name is Nightstrider and I'm new to the Elite franchise.
I've purchased ED somewhere at the start of February and it has been an amazing experience.
I come from playing freelancer way back and then a little bit of EVE a few years back. ED has given me all the nostalgic feeling I had with that game and I love it!!!
Making this post is just a way for me to see who is on here as my actual reason for Forum account creation was to report bugs, After noticing the ticket system was broken and all of my tickets with bug reports were never send Q_Q(Should have payed more attention)
Finding things that are broken and understanding why they are broken and how they could be fixed fascinates me. As a software engineer myself but no understanding of game engines I make a lot of assumptions based upon my own knowledge.
As well as trying to come up with improvements for controls or just user interactions I've written a number of small macro's programs that allow me to put multiple actions under one key and work fluently.
In the game I love to bounty hunt AI and fight at warzones, It has been something that really connected with me in ED that never has before in other games. In other "space sims" I've always taken a liking to the industrialist approach e.g. mining trading. Some day I will set out to find a blackhole and stare at pretty stuff far away from up close.
Currently on the hunt for seeing a Capital class ship in action has proven difficult but I am confident finding one will be successful.
My setup for ED is something I love to talk about as I believe it's pretty unique and have only seen a handful of people with similar setups.
I use a X52 Flightstick together with a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force joystick in my left hand. The right functions as a normal flight stick would the left takes care of horizontal and vertical movement. It just flies intuitive and natural to me and fully emerges me into the cockpit of my shiny black cobra.
"But wait how do you control throttle" I hear you ask, Well I use a set of pedals to control my throttle (currently kinda broken due to the game not having 2 axis for thrust)
Combine this with TrackIR5 from my ARMA times and Phillips AMBX. And you get a awesome combination of feeling when you jump into a system and a neutron star lights up the entire room or when multi cannons flash yellow when tearing up another bounty.
I hope to find people who like to theory-craft about game mechanics and gameplay as well as talk about nerdy tech stuff.
