Imperial Clipper with A4 Shields?

Ok, so I recently got the Imperial Clipper, and I want to use it for trading, but I don't want to get interdicted and destroyed because I have crappy shields or no shields at all, so I am wondering if the A4 shields are enough to protect me long enough to get away?

Sorry if this is the wrong section to ask this, I don't use the forums very much.

If all you intend to do is get away, you'll be fine with any shield.
The clipper is a very fast ship & will outrun or outmass anything but another clipper.

I put an A3 shield on mine. Had a couple interdictions but the Clipper is so fast that my assailants usually only get down to the last ring of shields by the time I jump. A python once wiped my shields but I was able to get away with only a few minor scratches.

It is certainly risky. Though totally doable.

Yes they will, depending on what interdicts you.

4A shields are appropriate for trading and will give you 232 cargo capacity in one of the fastest ships in the game.

Add in a few shield boosters, Clipper has plenty of power to spare. Gimballed or turrets on the larger hardpoints. If you get interdicted just boost, boost, FSD.

Congratulations, CMDR, on what is probably the most enjoyable trade ship to fly imo.

Oh, was it 3A I used to give me 232 cargo? Go with the one that gives 232 cargo anyway imo, easy choice now you can compensate with shield boosters.

Awesome, thank you everyone. Also, I love the ship so far, have only flown it for a bit, but it feels amazing.

I use a 3D shield and always run. I don't even have A Thrusters, but I always quickly get out of weapon range and can easily escape. Always submit, boost away and charge FSD. Nothing is gonna get you.

You can get 232 with class 4. The class 3 can push it up to 240.

Damn it. I traded to T9 in a clipper assuming I had the lowest class shield she could take.

DOH!!

Still it is such a nice ship to fly it is hard to resent having spent a few extra days in her.

I wish we would get some hard numbers for things like Shields and Hull when you get the upgrades. It's so obfuscated. I can understand the devs wanting to hid some of the numbers, especially with weapons. However, trying to figure out how important the size of your shield generator is, especially in a ship like the Clipper that has a wide range of options, is frustrating. Do I get the cheap low rating Class 7 Shields, or is the more expensive higher rating Class 6 shields better? In my opinion Shield and Hull hitpoints should be a listed value that you can see change as you change your models.

But yeah, for trading you only need enough shields to run away...

Actually the dev's don't want to hide anything.
A dev stated the stats are coming, but is not a priority.

In the mean time, all shield stats from all ship are on the Wiki.
And EdShipyard shows does all calculations for. Easy to compare A6 with A7.

i am pretty sure that in the same thread that they said they wanted to show the numbers, they said that the numbers in the wiki and shipyard were all wrong.

Maybe i misremember but i think that is what they said.

Please show source, I don't recall reading that.

With A4s and decent weapons you should be able to spank pretty much any NPC short of elite Pythons and Condas, honestly.

EDIT: Assuming D or better thrusters and a good P Dist.

Highest rated Power Distributor, and Thrusters.

yeah, I'll have to go back to the EDShipyard, last time I tried it was broke. Still, tricking out your ship is like a major part of Elite...you would think telling us what the things we put on our ship actually do would be up there somewhere on the to do list.

My current load-out includes A4 shields and a recently added A2 shield cell bank for those pesky interdiction's. You can run if you like of course, but if your hard-points are setup fairly well, just take out the biatches and collect the reward. Just be sure to have a KWS.
