Newcomer / Intro New to ED, got some questions, and LF people to play with

New Guy here! I've never played Elite games before. I knew about this game back in it's beta but I wasn't aware of it's release...well found out two weeks ago it's out! Been watching streams(badnewsbaron and londongaming) and youtube like crazy and I was like yeaaaaahhhhh I need to get this. So I got it yesterday. I have an x55 that will be here today. Started learning the game with a logitech extreme 3d pro...but gotta have that Hotas action for my sim racing rig(obutto r3volution).

Anyways, missions pay me like a jerk 800-2k credits... I'm broke I got like 6800k and I was stupid and picked up carge in front of a fed ship and got fined 6k... so I gotta pay that...but I don't wanna.... any advice on how to start making some actual money? Bounty hunting now? I can't seem to find anyone wanted. I just need to get this ship upgraded so I can progress in this game.

Also I'm guessing there is no main story mission line? I guess it really is just being dumped into space broke?! :eek:

Anyways, I have no RL friends that play or will ever play this so as always looking for people to play with.

Hi and welcome to space commander!!

The game does start off pretty slowly at first because you have to build up your earning ability by upgrading your ship / buying new bigger ship but getting there is half the fun.

The easiest way to start making money is probably light freight / smuggling work. I've worked my way up to about 98000 cr by doing just that.

Bounty hunting is a bit trickier to start with because you start with quite a basic ship and you run the risk of tracking down a target that has superior fire power / skill and getting your butt handed back to you in a bag!

You are spot on - there in no story line........ You kinda write your own as you fly around the galaxy blazing your own trail.

ED is not really aimed at group play as such but the new wings add-on does give you the ability to buddy up with a couple of others and fly around - blow up stuff etc..

Go towards a Nav Point unti you get "Safe to Disengage", and exit FS (just like going to dock). Here you will find lots of ships milling around.
Fairly soon, you will see a fight. Find the one who is Wanted, and join in. You level of gung-ho is entirely up to you. You could just wait till he is nearly dead, then dive in, or do hit and runs, or just pile in. There is big money to be made hunting bounties now.

I got 250,000 cr for just helping kill one ship today. I am not suggesting you jump all over a Dangerous Anaconda, but with the NPCs teaming on someone, you can punch WAY above your weight.

We should probably start mentioning "don't engage targets in wings (target description)" to newcomers. Else, engaging a harmless Sidewinder can lead to unexpected hostilities from bigger snakes.

you get a bigger thrill from beating a wing though - or maybe that is just me??

Well done Khyber GT.

As some of the guys have mentioned, I am a Trader/Smuggler, so delivering missions for CR is a good way and gather rebel transmissions and Black Boxes. Also keep an eye out for the Slaves missions. Sometimes the starport will want 2 slaves and offer you 40-60K CR for it and even in some instances they sell them on the commodities market so you can just buy 2 there and hand in the mission for a wealthy profit.
