Newcomer / Intro How to play with my buddy?

Hi, my buddy and I are in the same group but we cannot seem to connect to the same server. Is there any way to ensure that we log into the same server so we can actually play together?

This needs sorting out 'cause i can garuntee it will improve the longevity of this game and so make more money.

Thanks for the reply. tried that and received the unable to contact(connect) to cmdr. I'm assuming we are different servers, IP showing from the start screen is different. We tried in various combinations to get the same IP using open play, private group. Just a waste of time.

Did you and your buddy both try to play in the open, and locate other CMDR's? Might be a firewall issue or something.

Thanks for the reply. Yes we tried to play in open together. Couldn't see each other.

Is there a reliable way to play with my buddy WITHOUT having to cast spells and incantations over my keyboard? I'm sure this must've come up before. SOMEONE must know how to do it.

For the first time since I started to test the 1.2 update I actually had some issues tonight with connecting to others (it's been working flawlessly before). The servers have been acting up for some. FD mentioned that there where some issues before the weekend and they started up some extra servers to "hotfix" it. I don't think the real fix is done yet.

Thanks Tinman. That makes sense because we've manage to play together before. In the end my friend logged in frustration so it's not a healthy position to be in for this game. We do need a relaible way to play together.

is the dance to get the same server still necessary or does the WINGS feature enforce a server instance migration?

Also, i would REALLY love a proper explanation/guide on the Wings feature but as just about everything with this game, it seems to be hidden under many pages of forum search results :\
