Not going to happen, I'm afraid.

This is the merge target for every thread that pops up complaining about existing game features from players that have just discovered that they don't like the features.

lol. Nice.

For my part, I like the different modes and hope none are ever removed. Solo is the only way to avoid players who don't play by the rules. Like, the actual FD rules. So, there's my vote added to this mega thread :)

Those who fear Open Play Those who fear Open Play

I've played 99% in Open since the beginning and have only had one nasty experience.

Last night I joined a trading wing and was earning an extra 150,000CR per round trip !! Not a single pirate bothered us and the race between stations was like a mini-competition in itself.

Go on, give it a chance. :)

You see a few idiots in some of the well known systems, but otherwise it's all been good. I've lost a few ships, but knew what I was getting into. I only wish it wasn't so laggy with connection problems. I often switch to solo just to get uninterrupted play.

Never seen an unfriendly player (or even a wanted one) since I started in Open back in December, but I've not been to the Lave area yet (have been to Sol though and only saw a few other traders).

What's in it for the trader? Life at the bottom of the food-chain probably won't be too enjoyable....

The game has been advertised from the outset as being able to be played alone, with friends or in open play - with the ability to switch between the three modes. If that promise were to be reneged on then I would expect that it would have happened before release.

In the original Elite you started as a trader and although you could pirate or bounty hunt it was completely meaningless even more so than ED, and yet running the gauntlet was quite fun.

Lets just take a look at the pros and cons of Solo mode

Pro's
Traders can make money quicker, (npc's are easy, so you swap shields for cargo space, hence make money quicker)

Con's
Trading in solo thins the player base, breaks the game 'food chain' and could potentially wreak havoc with Pirates having no-one to pirate and bounty hunters having no-one to bounty hunt what happens then ?

All i'm saying here is that IMHO the con's of solo outweigh the pro's to the game as a whole. And apart from traders making money faster really provides no benefit whatsoever and achieves nothing that actually can't be done in open.

Since 1.2, systems and space around station is more crowded. However, the lack of real idiots playing the game is quite refreshing. No troubles in playing open here either.

Been playing since Beta and only met one pirate. As I had only just purchase my ASP Explorer at the time I attempted a fight but had to surrender as my new ASP wasn't equiped for a fight. Only cost 6 of my cargo and a 75% hull damage, but it was fun :D

If you want to play like the name implies.

Play dangerous and stick to open :)

The point of playing in open is to have fun running the gauntlet against pirates. (I'm 99.9% sure that's what DB had in mind) so shouting 'hey come join open there are no pirates here' is actually counter productive.

The game is *supposed* to have pirates, the pirates are *supposed* to interdict traders and attempt to steal their cargo. The fun for both parties is *supposed* to be in the interaction between them.

So I say this, if you want a dull 'space trucker' type game then solo is for you.

If on the other hand you want the fun and exitement of making your way in a dangerous galaxy full of pirates, freebooters, crazy craft and all sort of assorted scumbags then com join open, its much more fun.

I just got interdicted by a bounty-hunter who combat logged when he lost! Welcome to open (not a rare occurrence as a pirate)

I report combat loggers with a smile, no exception, because it will be taken care of such behavior. FD is doing a good job there. Just don´t let em take away the fun.

too much pirates here lurking for victims :D

Let them come :)

I certainly don't fear open play, but I definitely prefer solo. Mainly because there is almost never any lag (ships teleporting around).

I've played pretty much exclusively in open - it adds 'spice'.

More than once I've had pucker-factor heart-racing oh-crap-player-pirates might-lose-my-ship BEST moments in the game. You just don't get the same challenge or fear facing the AI.

So what you are saying then is for that run open play was pretty much the same as private group play. From mine and others experiences there is more lag on open play meaning the only difference between open and private group is there being more lag.

Thanks for confirming what I thought about open, I will stick to private group and solo.
