Tab Stops to Systems and Sensor Panels?

Should Tab Stops be added?

Adding Tab Stops to the panels will allow advanced Keybindings to be macro'ed. This will allow programs like Voice Attack to program advanced keybinding macros.

Why do you want this?
1) Macro to request docking
2) Target weapons to enemy sub targets
3) You are much less likely to 'run into something' because your distracted.... (Real world: texting while driving)

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else on the forum.

Lol, I'm pretty sure game designers want the opposite of what you are asking for. They don't want macros to be easy. It cheapens game play.
.
And I agree with them, even though I have Voice Attack and have been using it more and more.

'Lol' - Really?

I'm going to guess you text while driving instead of using Microsoft Synch ,etc.?

A Tab stop won't stop me or others from using the panels, but it will simplify the tasks that are currently REQUIRED. Read: request docking....

ROFL, it "cheapens game play", but YOU use voice attack ?

Having to navigate convoluted menus isn't game play btw, that's lack of functionality.

No, it requires skill. Macros make it stupid simple.

Case in point:

I have 2 B-rated Shield cells equipped. Each have 4 charges. Because of power constraints, I can only have one powered up at a time. So, here comes macro that:

Fires shield cell, increases counter by 1.
When counter reaches 4, go into modules power down first bank, power up second bank.
When counter reaches 7, play audible warning that there is only one charge left.
When counter reaches 8, play audible warning that there are no more charges left.
.
That kind of functionality is HUGE. For one, you don't have to count, the macro will AUTOMATICALLY switch banks when one runs out, and it will warn you when you're close to being completely out. Also, doing it manually would take 1-3 seconds, assuming you pre-position to a nearby module and don't have to scroll too much. Then you have to be SURE you don't click on the wrong button, like say changing the priority instead of de-activating. With a macro, it is done in 0.5 seconds, basically a blip of the screen and there is no way it'll misclick.
.
Just because you don't push the limits of what macro programs can do, doesn't mean other people don't.

Real life makes for poor gameplay.

Already have docking macro set up in VA.

And as for targetting subsystems, do it before you launch your attack, when they arent shooting back at you.

What is your docking Macro?
I can't seem to make it work.....
It will work if it's the 2nd request for docking, but not the first. The difference being that VA knows where it's at in the Matrix...

Either a keystroke to select the correct tab (as you can do with the panels) or just an option to Not remember which tab was last focused (as it does now) would do the job.

Honest question, why use a docking macro? it's 6 button presses in quick succession, I can request docking in well under a second manually. Is this more for those using HOTAS setups? (I'm a M&KB Player)

People want buttons and macros for everything, they don't want "convoluted" menu's that try to build some form of semblance of real systems, they don't care. They don't want any attempts at simulation, they just want an arcade game to go pew pew. Console culture?

Oh for those days 20 years ago with 300 page manuals and a 'game' you had to study to play... But, but,.,, the radar modes and functions are too convoluted...

I disagree totally. Wanting to use voice attack for docking is how I envisage ships will fly in the future. They will have manual controls as a backup, with voice controls being the main method of interaction. Kind of like modern fighter jets do right now.

To me, its not a matter of making it easier, or "being from the console generation" (I was 12 when the original elite came out and played it to death). Id quite happily spend hours reading a manual about how the docking system works, and STILL use voice attack for it. Its about making something as immersive for myself as I can.

And as for radar modes? I dont think its complex enough, and would like selectable filter modes to suit different parts of flight.

Why the stops?

I already use voice attack to request docking permission.
The commands wich came with ASTRA's voice attack profile work fine.
Although she does get confused from time to time.

Nope, definitely PC culture, being able to mod hack and customise everything until the original vision has all but disappeared ;)

Yeah when you're used to it it's pretty much instantaneous. No need for macros at all.

In my setup: look left, hat right, hat right, fire, hat down, fire (from memory)
