Hardware & Technical Computer specs in Sigs

Right, you lot! I've been curious for a while so thought I would ask the question.

Why do some people put their computer specs in their signature?

Am I being naieve or ignorant or something else? All answers are welcome! (Condescending or otherwise :) )

<grins> One could explain it thus: it saves having to repeatedly quote one's specs during technical discussions.

Or it could just be showing-off, of course... hmm!

I have sigs turned off so don't take this personally anyone, but on a forum like this (ie not a dedicated technical pc forum) it's pretty much for bragging rights I'd reckon. I'm guessing those who have their specs are pretty good ones? If I'm wrong shoot me... Only, there's a queue and I've run out of bullets. :)

Sigs turned off here too... They mostly get in the way of reading, though it can be a pain when someone comments on one. End up having to go through to their bio to find out what it says/shows.

So it's not appropriate to have as my Sig the PC Specs of the computer that I spent the most on ever - $5000 AUD back in 1989

Amstrad PC2286
Whopping 80286 Processor
Massive 40 Meg HDD
Fully Expanded to 1 MB RAM
3.5" Floppy Drive
and
5 1/4" External Drive
Huge 14" VGA Colour Monitor

But Wait For it :

A Maths Coprocessor - for AutoCAD work :D:D:D

Isn't it about who has the biggest err....ram? Or suchlike. I don't pay any attention to signatures and ones with computer specs just seem to be for bragging rights.

I notice a few people saying they have sigs off. I think a sig is a valuable insight into the psyche of a person. Especially when you can't see their socks!

A person putting boastful specs in their sig is a useful counterpoint to the post they are making. ignore this at your peril!

I turned sigs off for a while.

Then I turned them on again and now I rarely notice them - my brain sort of screens them out - a bit like ads on the sides of web pages.

I know they are there but they don't register - consciously anyway...

Valuable Insight

And I would say having you Sig turned off is also just as valuable and insight.:D
