As the subject says I can't figure out how to earn credits at the Lugh combat zone?

I want to fly for the Federation. I went to Hartsfield and picked up the combat bond mission, flew out to Lugh 11 and flew around the capital ship shooting Crimson ships. They blew up really quickly because of the concentrated fire from all the other ships but I typically get a number of shots on them before they die. No message pops up to say I earned any credits and had nothing on my transactions screen, so I flew back to Hartsfield and there wasn't anything to turn in.

Other people talk about earning hundreds of thousands or even millions of credits. What am I supposed to do?

Ah, did you remember to pick a faction from the right hand UI panel (I think it's at the top of the modules tab)? I forgot, the first time I went into a conflict zone like that- and until you officially pick a faction, you don't get anything for your kills. I still forget occasionally now :)

When you get to the CZ open your right moduuals panel and select what side you want to fight for.

Although farming CZ's is a crappy thing to do but meh.

That must be my problem, I didn't know you had to do that. Thanks.

I wouldn't consider myself a particularly skilled pilot, what are the pros and cons of doing this in solo vs open play?

You're welcome. It's not abundantly clear, so it's a common omission, I think.

Pros: You can shoot at other humans
Cons: Other humans can shoot at you

(..sounds facetious but it really is that simple.)

Whether the other humans are a good or bad thing is partly the luck of the draw- if the side you pick is stronger, if the the players are skilled or not, if they're reasonable human beings or idiots. It can be much more fun than solo, it can be much less fun. If you're unsure, go there in solo until you have a feel for the basic scale of the thing, and then switch to open when you feel like something a little more crazy.

Why do you say that, is it boring? I thought it would be a nice change from my normal trading.

Well it's boring yes but I was referring to the action of sitting off a cap ship and farming credits pretty much risk free. Also you really sould be fighting for crimson and freedom from federation oppression.

Ah... That's where we diverge you see. When I stayed playing I read up on the Fed's and Empire's political philosophy and felt I aligned more with the former, I don't see it as an oppressor. A man is allowed to change his mind though.

It's plenty exciting enough if you strap into a puny A-fit Viper, and hurl yourself at the highest ranked Pythons and Vultures that you can find :)

Ah ok that's cool. If you fancy we can "wing up" at some point and hit a few RES points :)

Arguably, using military force to keep Lugh from seceding from the Federation is oppressive (Crimson State is not trying to join the Empire afaiaa).

Also if you want to play in open but detest idiot playes who only want to PK other people then join a group called MOBIUS. There its all the fun of open but you are not allowed to kill other players except in combat zones and if you chose a side, you are not allowed to attack players on your side. go to there site and check them out. we have about 6000 members and climbing, I joined last week

One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. The Federation has to protect their greater geopolitical interests.
