should i sell my asp for a vulture?

I just parted out my asp and sold it, and picked up the vulture. quite happy with it, doing some of the community goals in lugh, I was using the asp which was fine, but the c3's really tear into the ships in the combat zones, and with sb and hull reinforcements, I don't have to run back for repairs. it been a lot of fun as a combat ship, when I'm done I can part it out and go rebuild my asp as needed. hopefully make some good credits on these community goals for now, then when I'm done, maybe a clipper, or a dropship. the really nice this is that you aren't "stuck" with it you can always go back, just may need to hunt down some of the modules again, but that is no big deal and part of the game.

The vulture will take any npc ship including the anaconda, fairly easily with a b rated layout and size 3 guns. if you want easy kill then vulture or close call with some damage asp

ps i have a vulture and keep trying to find some near death experience but its all a bit easy and the other annoying thing with the vulture is the speed, if you indict a human play in any other ship they just fly away at a speed you can't manage even with 4 pips to the engine

Vulture only takes about 5 shots with a pair of pulse lasers to destroy a sidewinder and most of the other fighters below the asp die in less than 20 seconds and those energy weapons never need ammo. Went to a res with a buddy in another vulture and we made 500k each in 20 minutes without much effort. Pythons, dropships and clippers died quickly we had help with anacondas from locals so those went fast too. Never lost more than half my Grade D shields with 0D shield booster. In fact it was too easy really, never really felt I was in much danger.

Yup it wrecks face in lugh. I managed to get up to 12.5 million in rewards now. Will try for 15.

If all you're doing is combat, then the current Lugh stats speak volumes:

Asp 603
Viper 652
Cobra 877
Vulture 1640

Maybe they'll downsize the Vulture's weapons a bit and bring it back to reality.

Those stats are nowhere near proof of anything. First of all you cant even compare viper/cobra to a higher tier combat ship. And the vulture is an asp tier ship designed for combat, it takes away cargo space and overall multipurpose feeling of the ship to design it for combat. The cargo space is reduced significantly and max fsd jump distance is also cut by more than half with max grade upgrades. Whats the balancing problem again? If the Vulture was worse it would be useless, as people can just use the asp.

Also its a new ship so obviously more people are using it. Lowering (the limited) 2 large hardpoints would destroy this ships usability because the asp would be pretty much better every single way.

you lose jump range (my Vulture is now 14.5LY, my Asp was 23LY). Two large weapons only - but go class 3 Bursts and you'll double the damage the Asp was capable of (especially to larger ships). Class 2 Hull Reinforcement, Millitary Grade Hull plus a Shield Booster and you can sail through combat with only the occasional few minutes waiting for recharge.

Ditto.

I was enjoying my Cobra and was building up the cash to go to a loaded out Asp when the 1.2 update came out. Saw the Vulture new addition, reviewed the specs and figured that was my next ship (combat mostly). Got it, loaded out much like the config quoted above and I have a blast with the RES points... Anacondas, Clippers, Dropships, etc. No problem at all... well actually the only problem in the RES field right now is that nasty bug that flags you criminal for firing on a wanted labelled pirate (happens randomly, usually within 15 minutes of battling in the RES)... :p

I think the only thing I don't really like about the Vulture is the look of it and the god awful noises it makes thrusting and jumping in/out... lol

Looks like Cobra is the second most popular ship for combat after Vulture. Interesting...

Traded in my Vulture for a Clipper, as I kinda wanted to start dabbling into other things besides combat. Blowing up every ship thrown at you effortlessly can start to get boring after a while ... but I'll happily hop in one again anytime. So yeah, get one. You won't regret it. Experiment with some loadouts to find out what works best for you.

^ this.

As an avowed Cobra fanboy, after I maxed out mine and had 10mil in the bank... what to do? More grinding to Master rank, so why not try a Vulture?

I bought one (stored the Cobra) and gave it the 2 best lasers I could find, a halfway decent Powerplant, distributor and shields... left the rest stock for now.

Fighting at a NAV point, I was immediately shocked by how fast it tears thru shields and ships. Sideys melt in one pass... plus it's more nimble than my Cobra for my style of fighting (get in close to the belly and knife fight).

Bottom line: I'm very surprised at how happy I am with my new Vulture ~for combat~. Enjoy it now, until they rebalace it. :)

The Clipper has significantly more firepower than the Vulture at the expense of maneuverability. It's pretty easy to facemelt any NPC ship in the game with it, too.

Reality? What are you talking about? Why don't we look at what ships are used to explore? Do we need to bring the Asp back to reality?

Asp isn't a combat ship, it's multi role as is the cobra. Certainly isn't surprising that there are a whole lot more vultures than vipers or FDLs, the price dif between the fdl and vulture is quite large and there is no useful combat ship in between, as far as I know.

Yeah, it does, and I still have power to spare. Hardpoint placements are crap though, but I can manage (seriously, who thought putting guns on the engines was a good idea?). Just gotta watch where I'm flying in those RESes.
