Beyond the EXPANSIONS

The thing is - a dozens of friends of mine have pledged for Star Citizen. I am currently the only one who supports E:D, too. So in the next days we will talk about E:D and the question will arise: What is the benefit of the £80 package, won't £25 be enough? At the moment I'm not able to give any answer. ;)

Besides the free expansions (which will be worth it on their own IMO), the main tangible benefits are the extra starting ship options, starting credits, and location choices. If a bunch of you are playing together, maybe it's worth everyone having similar location choices?

SC backers will certainly understand the concept of paying cash for extra ships to be available :) ED isn't quite the same as you won't have the different ships in an in-game hangar, but it does give you that extra choice.

Thanks for your replies and the different aspects you pointed out! I will take them into consideration when discussing. :)

There are two expansions planned Seamless Planetary Landing (SPL) or being able to land on planets and Walking around your space ship/planet both of which will be chargeable (20/30).
Ok, since I like lists:
  • Seamless Planetary Landing (SPL) (perhaps I shouldn't use Evochron or FFE D3D as reference ;) )
  • Walking around your space ship/planet (together with SPL: sounds like a huge effort!)
Together they are around £50 (I assume this is wild speculation, but it's good to have at least a number :) ), what will neutralize the £80 at all.^^ Well, only in case the game is successful enough so that the expansions will actually be made at all?
(what I do hope b/c those Star Citizen fans who can't wait will likely buy ED next year, regardless of the DFM)

Frontier developed an FPS game called Outsider and having seen it I see no reason to think it cannot be moulded to fit a space environment.
Ok, that seems to be a huge advantage of Elite in comparison to SC that Braben has an engine which fits his needs and more importantly a team that is familiar for years with its functionality/tools.

Diving into the price question for a moment, in a purely numbers sense £90 is actually lower than what we should set for the free expansions. Remember the Kickstarter isn't really about selling copies it's about funding development of the game. As such we acknowledged that people would have some questions so we thought it appropriate that people backing the game to a certain level should be rewarded with free expansions.

When looking at what tier that should apply it should have been over £150, but we felt that the £90 tier was a better fit.

This kickstarter isn't funding the expansions, so we cannot tie the lower tier pledges to the expansions.

I hope that makes sense.

Also, they've been planning all of this in the background for around 15 years, so there's probably a fairly solid plan behind it all...

Interesting, the £150+ figure Michael mentioned would kind of imply that there are at least 4 expansions planned if we take the figure of £30 for E:D and each subsequent expansion:eek: I wonder what the other 2+ are?

Just look what could be involved. Providing fishing and hunting. Settlements with NPC's Quest lines involving NPC's. I suspect these elements will be grouped into other Expansions....
