Exploratation : Penetrative Scans

This was being mention in my thread about exploration but I thought i'd pull it into it's own thread because it's bugging me and maybe someone will see it if it's seperate.

I dont get these Penetrative Scans showing when I sell data, they have not been mentioned on the forum before as far as I can see.

Anyone know anything about this, why, how?

On the penetrative scans, nothing fancy on my ship - Advanced Discovery, and Surface Scanner, and that's it. Oddly, not ALL things that I scanned came back with a penetrative scan, I have plenty that show a Surface Scan but no penetrative (though I think, but not sure, that all penetrative scans have a surface scan.) It does seem to increase the payout, which is odd for something we can't seem to choose to do or not to do! I can only think it might be distance? Sometimes I get lazy and stop as soon as the scanner is close enough to start work, sometimes I am wanting a visual and fly in closer. Not sure.

As another note, I checked and this has not shown up in the Exploration statistics under Level 2 or Level 3 scans, so... not sure at all what they are!

Now I am back in inhabited space (whew!) I spent my 5 mill profits from the trip on a Vulture and am blowing things up for a bit, but still want to know what those scans are!

lol, penetrative scans sound like a proctology examination.

..needless to say, I hope this comes in next update..

Well I'm returning from a quick 10,000ly trip, only 800ly from 'home' now and I've tried all kinds of different things.. Scanning really close up, really far away, leaving it scanning a long time and out of Supercruise.

Will see if any of these do anything when I hand in the data..

Of course the big question to ask next is.... *if* these two new scanning techniques actually arrive into the game and as they are already associated with the data we hand in from exploration, does that mean we can go out to all the systems we have *already* discovered and carry out scan 2 & 3 for extra credits on top of what we have already earned previously. If thats the case we can start scanning right from our local systems again and then expanding ever outwards.

I seriously doubt we would be able to carry out these scans on just any planet/moon, if FD continue to be on form they will restrict these extra scans to specific planet types like *earth-like* that meet a specific criteria that FD will tell us about in due course. Good job we have a list of locations for around 200 Earth Like planets somewhere in this forum ;)
