Need a KWS for in SuperCruise

As a Bounty HUnter, I often see players tootling around in a system in Super Cruise and I usually norma-scan all of them out of pure habit.
9/10 times these players all come up as clean.

However, I've noticed that when I bump into them later in a resource site and I use my KWS scanner on them, some actually have outstanding bounties from other systems.

It would have been much better if I could have scanned them in SC mode, since then it means my FSD interdictor now has a use.

I used to just interdict them anyway, then scan, but interdicting clean ships now causes a bounty on your head. I'd rather know in advance if the guys is a criminal needing bringing to justice before diving in with the interdictor or letting them meet up with their mates at the RES / Nav Beacon instead.

Please can you let the KWS (maybe the higher rated ones, giving them a better reason for their price) be able to scan in SC mode?

KTHXBYE! :D

lets not forget about cargo scanners :) so many innocent traders hauling crap around the galaxy would be spared from being forced out of SC

It wouldn't make sense, you need to be like 3km away from your target, of you're in supercruise you're likely thousands if not millions of kilometers away from your target. At the moment you can already know if the target is wanted locally, which isn't too bad.

and how does the basic scan make sense in SC?

if you can scan with basic scanners, other scanners should work too. they have very similar ranges out of supercruise, there is NO reason this couldn't be implemented.

While this would be a nice quality of life improvement for the KWS, it won't work for the cargo scanner. It would be the end of smugglers if every npc policeship could scan our cargo in supercruise.

Hmmm well maybe with slight changes it might work?

Instead of getting the actual information, like actual cargo, and the bounty.
A KWS could in supercruise, have longer range, where it wouldn't get the amount of bounty the person has but simply if they are wanted or not somewhere?
And the Cargo scanner could simply rather then giving information on what cargo a person has, instead maybe give indicator on how much 'extra' mass the ship seems to has, giving a vague indicator of how full their cargo hold is without informing how much and what exactly?

You lot aren't thinking it through. in supercruise the FSD acts like an Alcubierre warp drive, distorting and compressing space. As far as the KWS is concerned it may only be scanning for 6km, when the distance in real space is much greater.

I agree BTW, I think having the KWS work in Supercruise would improve the game. I hardly use my interdictor anymore, since I can't tell beforehand if I'm going to get fined for it. PvP is very poorly balanced in this game, it needs to be fixed.

Well, by that reasoning sensors wouldn't work in supercruise as it is now, I gather it is because the signals caused in supercruise a much more powerful, as such wouldn't kws and cargo scanners be able to sense 'something' as suggested in my post before your post?

No scans without the ability to violently retaliate.
Which is why they wouldn't be accurate, see my suggestion on page 1, last post.
They would be inaccurate, wouldn't be able to see cargo or how much specifically, or how much bounty they have just that they have one?

I've not done much bounty hunting since beta so this could all have changed by now, but it used to be the case that you would get fined for attacking a pilot if they were clean in your current system, regardless of whether they showed up as wanted elsewhere. If this is still the case then surely a KWS in SC would make no difference - if they're clean in your current system you'd still be fined for interdicting them.
