Anyone else searching for the NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan Black?

It's on GalNet. How is that not in your face?

Honestly, it is so easy to ignore GalNet, there is nothing flashy about it that grabs your attention. I really only find out about things from the forum.

One, you might find ten! ;)

Mwahahaha...they will ALL be MINE!

This news item went out a little early - details will be released tomorrow.

Michael

Oops...GalNet must have some seriously persistent journalists with unreal scoops :D

There is a distinct possiblity that I am reading this wrong, but you won't be able to SLI the titan with the 970. SLI only works between the same model number, like if you were to have two 970's or two Titans of the same type. I'm kind of torn on this one though, I have a 980 and don't know if I'm impressed enough by the titan black to swap it out on my main computer. Then again I am a nerd, and probably would for bragging rights, ahh well best of luck everyone.

Oh, I thought you could. Time to look over my notes again :p

However, Microsoft claims Windows 10 can mix and match anything...even across AMD and NVIDIA. Not sure of the feasibility and whether it will be riddled with bugs...but it is an interesting development.

No, I won't be looking once they come out (tomorrow?). I have a better chance of being struck by lightning. I don't buy lottery tics either.

I think the future without advertising (besides the meager ship manufacturer signs) is immersion-breaking. There should be advertising. There should be ads selling rare items. I'm fine with current brands having advertising, too. There should be giant billboards on the side of coriolis stations. There should be hologram billboards in front of our landing pads once we dock. This would bring more life into the game

EVERY movie based on a human future has advertising plastered in it, often in billboards as large as the building. What makes this future different?

No doubt! Just as you mentioned earlier...I imagined Blade Runner, Total Recall, hell, even on Corascant in Star Wars...those neon holo billboards really looked cool to me. I would love to even see some brief motion commercials on them in game.

I thought of the same thing. And I'd still love to win it just for saying i did. But would probably end up on Ebay shortly after. Only situation i think a Titan black outperforms a 980 is if you're running a 4k.

That's Federation corporate states for you, those money-grubbing wunches of bankers would project holographic ads onto the inside of your eyelids if they could. I suppose we should be glad that every other Unidentified Signal Source doesn't turn out to be "You are the 1,000,000,000th visitor to this system! Shoot <<HERE>> to claim your prize!"

More of this is fine (in moderation, I didn't buy E:D to play a digital billboard). Pure advertisements, with no interesting quirks or content is nothing but selling out. I applaud FDEV for the way they handled this.
.

Agreed -- there is a limit. I don't want to see a splash screen for mcdonalds after the FD screen while we're loading up, but in-space billboards or sponsored events I think are fine --
competitions like the NVidia comp are great .. how about a red-bull inspired in game race? first to Sirius and back to sol with 4 detailed systems scans wins.... what, a redbull skin, or maybe a free upgrade?

I assume everyone complaining didn't read the EULA.

Don't open that box...you know where it goes :p

I really thought there would be a lot more ads in the game by now. I always saw the Remlok Saud Kruger and other ads at stations as placeholders for the eventual paid ads that could be in game. Though, i don't expect them to be limited to RL corporations...individuals should be able to buy adspace for their guilds or even for propaganda...

I was right :)

On a side note I'm shocked that people are annoyed at the competition being announced in game. It's hardly 'in your face' It's a good way to get people who dont read the forums to see it.

It's been stated before that around 1% of ED players venture to the forums.. So how else are they supposed to announce this kind of stuff? Not everyone checks social media or their emails on a regular basis either.

In addition, Guild wars 1, and 2, Dota 2, CSS. These are all games which survive just fine on a cosmetic sales with no ads model. It's nowhere near required to have ads in your game, even with content updates. People keep saying that, but it's simply not true. Guild Wars 2 is huge, you can't buy gear or stats, and there are no ads, but it gets by just fine.

I didn't know that the companies which developed and released Dota and CSS have their own servers through which every game runs... Besides, you can't relly compare mainstream games to a more niche type like Elite is. It's not selling like AAA -types are selling currently. Hell I would even pay sub fee for Elite, I wouldn't mind.

Assuming this is a titan black X (i.e., the one that just came out, not the one that has been out for over a year), not a titan black, based on specs alone it will outperform the 980 in just about everything. Especially 4k. I haven't had a chance to read current reviews, but pre-release endgadget was estimating it would take dual sli'd 980s to take on a titan x (which is about right if you think about it -- dual sli'd 680s come just about short of a 780ti in most tests). Anyway, I bow down to actual tests/reviews.
One thing you can do-- drop both cards in your system, and dedicate the other just for phyx. I always through SLI had to be symmetrical. AMD has async cross fire, but I haven't heard too many positive reviews on that.

I personally don't even see it as ingame advertising, it's just a competition but happens to mention nvidia on galnet. You may aswell say the race for elite was a advertisement for gbp as they paid out the prize in gbp.

The thing I will say, is that this could have been a touch better. Stuff needs to fit the lore a little better. If they add billboards for real companies, they should look like they belong in 3300, not 2015. If they were advertising these, the prototypes are re-using the name of a successful line of cards first released in 2015, and so on. Just massage it a little. I'd rather not see too many product ads, if possible, but brand ads should sit in nicely, if made to fit, like the current adverts around the game.

But then - it's not like FD spends as much money on advertising their own game as some of those AAA devs do.
Well, at least I hope that they don't, considering the trailers.

Well... they do. CSS can also be hosted on community servers, but still. Also, I see you feel free to ignore Guild wars, which is hosted exclusively on ANET servers, since it's an MMO.

I pay a sub for EVE, and I'd do it for Elite too. I'd suggest perhaps some sort of optional sub, but I don't know what you could give that would not feel really bad. It shouldn't affect gameplay at all, because that would be awful (still not mad about the insurance costs difference for alpha/beta/regular, even though I have beta discount myself), maybe credits towards cosmetics, or a new sub only skin every month. Something that's not gamebreaking, but adds some small value. Or just nothing, maybe!

I think it's a clever way to do some in-game advertising, and it's also a contest. Good job - if that's how ad revenue is going to be handled in-game, I'm all for it.
