Newcomer / Intro Cargo hold outfitting...

Hello all! Been flying around in my Sidewinder making myself some cash with simple trading and some pirate bashing (along the way) for the past few hours. I've made myself about 55,000 credits and am thinking of adding a cargo hold module to my setup, unfortunately when I click on 'buy and equip' it actually take 2 units of cargo hold away from my ship. Surely 'Buy and Equip' should not be the same as sell?
Also Im thinking of upgrading ship soon, should I buy a Hauler or save a bit extra for an Adder (bearing in mind Im looking for a trade vessel with bite!)
Cheers!

Buy and equip can sell a compartment if it is already full. You do have limited room in that sidey.
If you want a trader "with bite" you need an adder. The hauler is definatly a trader without bite, you wont scare anybody with that 1 small hard point.
Adder is really nice as an all purpose ship, but it's still small. If a vulture interdicts you, better comply to demands... it can destroy you pretty fast. Against other small ships, the adder can hold its own. A very good adder pilot could win against a moderate cobra pilot.

If you want to just trade, the hauler might be better for you. Just run like a little girl whenever you get in trouble. As a noob, you prolly wont last against an experienced pilot anyway, no matter what he/she flies.

Managed to get that extra cargo hold by selling my sensor (Duh!). Adder it is I think...might stick to solo mode until I get used to it (and fitting it out!). Cheers!

In a Sidewinder, the standard fitting is 2 cargo bays with a hold of 2t each (in the two class-2-internal compartments), and a Basic discovery scanner (in the one class-1-internal compartment). You can upgrade the Sidewinder to have 2 cargo bays holding 4t each (class 2 compartments) and one holding 2t (class 1 comp.) = 10t in total if you sell the scanner.
(The sensor should not be sold at all costs! Also, you can't fit a cargo bay in the sensor slot, so that doesn't help.)

Yeah, have to assume the Scanner is what Hoops sold, not the Sensor.

You wouldn't want to go flying without the Sensor. Can't request docking permission without it.

a SideWinder can hold max 10 cargo but only if you dump Shield and the discovery scanner, there is just so many internal slots to fit whit cargo racks that have the highest class individual slots can have.
