ANNOUNCEMENT Race to Elite Competition

Congratulations again, that is a lot of work to kill 8200 ships with a Viper! Did you have any assists from capital ships or friends? I managed to get 6500 combat bonds in a week with a Python, but with no help. Amazing I was beaten by a Viper!

Yes I used a Capital Ship (Dreadnought) it's not a secret I said it everywhere. I found the trick accidentaly at Kappa Fornacis and decided to stay there for 10 days. So big congrats for your 6500 combat bonds without help ;)

I think you are not the rightful winner.
Why?

EDIT: The Race to Elite Competition

If in Frontier’s sole opinion, there has been any cheating, then an entry may be disallowed.

To qualify you must:

c. Not cheat. We will manually look at the save files of the potential winners to verify this. The winners will be determined in our sole opinion and our decision is final.

So you so called "trick" , would be consideret in other way as an exploit(personal opinion). I will see these as ilegitimet kills so their breaking the rules of the race.

"Exploit" is a broad term. It encompasses outright cheating such as dupe bugs, and simple use of game mechanics such as tagging and kiting. I'm not sure what the details of this "trick" are, but it doesn't sound like cheating to me, and clearly not to Frontier either (or they just didn't notice it).

Congratulations to all the winners, right on commanders! Well deserved. Still can't fathom OnePercent's achievement, I'm still so far behind that triple elite status its not even funny :) Went for exploration instantly by the end of January and I'm still at it and only now, I'm starting to getting close to the rank. Have to admit I haven't been totally efficient after I saw the grand price being unachievable :) Only play some 8-10h per night now.

Guys, regarding FromtonRouge and the method he use to get the kills. He was open about it from the start, Frontier was well aware of it and decided it was a valid claim to the price.

I think it is a mistake call them "kills".
Maybe "one shot bounty farm" will be a better description...

Maybe it is legal, but sure it isn't fair play.

BTW, greetings to all participants, awesome stats.

Wow! they gave the award to a confessed cheater....

That is quite a shame. Ishmat, you have my congratulations as the real and fair winner in combat, no matter what those of the board of Frontier could say at this point.

Congrats too to CMDR Tequila and Lordkey for both exploration and trading.

And for sure Congrats to CMDR Onepercent for the Tripe Elite!

Just LOL, FD must be kidding us right?
Are they seriously giving the Elite combat prize out to a player who declared and documented pretty well how he had used a cheap trick to get all those kills in 10 days, just laser-tagging npcs and letting the capital npc ship doing most kills for him!??

And they needed all this time to check the players' saved games for this?? LOL!

Ishmat, congratulations, you are the first one who claimed the Elite combat prize legally... I just hope the peeps at FD realize about their mistake and make this right...

I can not believe what I'm reading. This should rectify that image wants to forntier of their players and their game what is a game we can win by cheating ?. The trick of the capital ship can not be used for the title of Elite. Is frontier rewarding cheats, reason why ?,
Is the use of cheats the way to win in elite ?.

this would be a very bad way to frontier, Do we want Elite: Dangerous is a game of cheaters who use the advantages of playing for prizes?
What joke is this?
Can you answer SR. Braben or this is a very touchy subject so that you your opinion?
Does it foster frontier foul play? Want dirty players in your game? As permitted enjoy the title of elite someone who has used an exploit?
Do we seek all exploits to take advantage of this game and destroy the game experience?

I think doing this frontier clearly encourages the use of cheats or exploits on his game as it is rewarding someone who has recognized, even before winning the title he had used a non-legal way to achieve the objective.

What kind of spirit we want to spread this game?
A personal question: do we have the Lance Armstrong of the elite here ?, someone who has earned my admiration has proven to be a fraud.

prize won without honesty.

yep, this is sad. it's supposed to be a COMBAT rank. this farming trick can even be done while afk, makes no sense.

anyway congrats to all, and very specially to CMDR ISHMAT. keep it up, buddy!

Guys, seriously. Why do you jump on Femtonrouge? He never tried to hide the fact he got the kills with the trick/exploit/game feature. He was very open and honest about it. While I personally agree it wasn't correct in the spirit of elite rank to win like that, the blame lies within Frontier who judged the claims to not act on the information which was well known. I understand it was a tough decision for Frontier to make and honestly don't know what else they could have done. I don't think they had the means to separate "pure" kills from "assisted" kills. And imagine the storm it would have created if in the middle of the competition elite rank calculations had changed (just counted bounties for example for the rank or something similar). Also, am I to believe that from the thousands of kills Cmdr Ishmat and Cmdr OnePercent made none happened with the same NPC assistance, even accidentally? (not trying to take the wind out of your sails or anything, you both did an amazing job). So, in conclusion, combat ranking is broken and needs to be fixed, which is something that in all fairness couldn't have been done while the competition was ongoing. (IMHO ofcourse :) )

*gives standing ovation* Seriously there's no way in hell I could ever put this much dedication into Elite. My hat's off to the committed.

Can we use ram cheats? while the player say "I use a ram cheat", nothing will happen?. Is this correct with this new version of doing things?.

It is very sad to see how a game like this. it breaks for things like this. Very low moral standard by frontier. This man represents all Elite players. (IMHO me too)

Whilst I agree that this is very very shady, let's leave FromtonRouge alone in this. The player was honest about how they achieved Elite status. I do not understand why Frontier allowed Elite status to be gained in this fashion; I suspect that it was an unintended side effect of fixing AI ships stealing your kills. The obvious solution would be to not allow the kill to be credited unless x% of damage done was by that player, but I presume there is a reason this was not implemented.

Regardless, the fact that Frontier validated this claim is dubious at best. I am sure they knew there would be complaints arising from the award, whether it was granted or denied.

to be clear, i personally have no qualm whatsoever with Fromton Rouge. i'm not even questioning his "playstyle". like it or not, he just did what he deemed best to win and meet the requirements with the options at hand, and was open about it. no problemo.

i think i also understand the problem for FD all too well, i guess there was really no good solution for the screw up this contest has been, even less so one which could please everybody. however the issue is still sad and i think it's worth pointing out. this game is still young and we can live gladly with any imperfections ingame, but organizing such a contest around flaky score mechanics (with real money prizes on top of that) was never a good idea. it wasn't even necessary. when will we learn to just stop listening to those marketing zerglings? like they have done any real good ever.

and i wouldn't like FD to hush up matters either. people had legitimate expectations, put in real effort, this can't be simply ignored. at the very least an official explanation would be in order. cheerfully dismissing this as if nothing had happened is definitely not nice.

also, try to read those comments from this perspective: i don't think anybody here actually has hard feelings to Fromton Rouge. it's actually FD who is putting him (or his feat) in bad light: if such playstyle wins a combat rank contest then what kind of joke of a game and contest is that? and what about such a winner?

Totally agree, FRONTIER must review the case!!!!!
