[ANNOUNCEMENT] Win an Nvidia Geforce Titan Black in our in-game Scavenger Hunt

I think to a lot of people $1000 of take home money equals a lot of hours in terms of job salary. Add to the fact that you're playing a game and not working and it doesn't look so bad.

$1000 is what, a week? A day? A few hours? If people are playing computer games in the vain hope of earning a living wage - then they either have to be really good, or have cold reality presented to them. Someone low on earnings doesn't need to play games - they need to find a better job.

I'm just absolutely amazed at the effort some peeps are going to for urm, erm, no good reason. It's nice of FD to offer free hardware, but there's absolutely no good reason to drop everything and rush to find a whotsit thing somewhere. Just think of the time you spend doing so. I can absolutely guarantee you that the time you spend on this endeavor is worth more than the full retail price of the card.

To each their own of course, and good luck to those determined enough to keep looking :)

Retails at $1,299. Minimum wage in US is ~$10 (?), that's 130 hours.
Doubtful.

I don't think anyone is hunting for it to earn a wage, funnily enough.

I don't think $1000 after tax in a week is low earnings. Keep in mind a typical work week is 40 hours which is a lot of game time. I don't think anyone is trying to live off this Titan. It's just a luxury they can't justify using hard earned money for. But if it comes as a consequence of playing a game they already enjoy it becomes a winning proposition.

You are absolutely right - but when I see comments by people saying "It's an easy $1300" and then potentially spending $2000 of their time trying to find it - I just cry.
I don't think I've actually seen anyone say that, but yes that would be a silly way of looking at it.

The most likely outcome of this hunt for 99% of us is going to be time spent warping around the empty Elite universe, only to read later where someone else found it.

Yup you are correct - I paraphrased "Retails at $1,299. Minimum wage in US is ~$10 (?), that's 130 hours." My apologies.

Yea I've already given up. Thought Kepler-110 was a sure thing and took my longest trip so far. The ride out was a ton of fun--scanning new systems, confident in my eventual success. The ride back has been less entertaining... At least I'll have a nice payday from the exploration data and a few more first discoveries.

That awkward moment when they ship you a 3dfx voodoo.

I've got this old Pentium Pro 200 that could use that card. I've wanted a fully functional DOS/Win95 machine again for a while now. :D

[Edit] Oh hey, you know what you should do for the next hunt? Gather a handful of vintage computers (BBC Micros, Spectrums, C64s) paired with their respective Elite versions for prizes and create a little story around "ancient artifacts".

Well I can say that I'm doing all of this on my free time (thank gods for the weekend), so no harm done. I had a few leads that wound up as dead ends though.

My favorite thing about this is that people have gotten so frustrated with the hunt that they have resorted to bickering about how worthless a Titan is for the time. Anyways, all my leads were dead ends, so good night. None of you go sneaky finding it while I'm asleep, okay?

About 2800LY from Sol and increasing distance to gas cloud, something tells me its not gonna be me that finds it :D

Just got slapped in the face with my own delusions.

"Hey I'm near Erivia...that sounds a lot like Nvidia"
*travels to system and sees station 200,000L's out*
*Dodges several Interdiction attempts*
"Oh man, this station is one of those black cubed stations...it's a sign...this is it"
*doesn't see the prototype commodity*

Soul Crushing.

I have checked titan city, hyperion system, leesti system, and some other titan names. Zilch. At a guess no one is going to post the location until they have successfully delivered one...

We need Hints.... Ive been searching for 9 hours and i havent seen it in any of the starports i went to..... my life is over
