Why do some PvP'ers crash PvE groups instead of getting a real challenge in Open mode?

Tool: "Hi, can I join your <GROUP> group please?"

Group manager: "Yes. Please follow our <GROUP> rules for gameplay."

Tool to his friends: "Ahaha, do you see how I cleverly tricked them? They are so stupid! I'm going to break their <GROUP> rules now! Ahahaha!"

Tool to his friends: "Ahaha, I broke their <GROUP> rules! I have vids! They threw me out! They are so stupid! Ahahaha!"

Insert the following for <GROUP>...

  • Back yard cricket
  • Bingo
  • Chess
  • Squash
  • PvE Gaming
  • Darts
  • Karate
  • 2-Square
  • Chasey

Anyone care to share?

Personally, I think they are insecure roleplayers who grind to get a Clipper in Solo mode (though they claim to play in Open mode), and then enter PvE groups to get some easy kills to boost their deflated egos, as they wouldn't stand a chance in Open.

But I could be wrong.:)

For the same reason as the bigger kids pick on the little kids in the playground but then hide from even bigger ones... coz they're immature bullies. *shrug*

Same reason I've only ever been openly griefed in open whilst trying to nurse a crippled viper back to dock after an hour of bounties and assasinations.
No cargo, not wanted.
But ship on 22% hull with canopy gone and no multicannon rounds left.
Fair game right :p

Yeah the ones who push PvP never seem too interested in a fair fight when I'm rolling in something that stands a chance...

Oh and the guy was so bad he didn't even manage to kill me; despite interdicting me 4 times - I was in more danger of asphyxiation than of getting a kicking!

Well, what is the most attractive Target?
A Group full of Players specifically not aimed at PvP of course. A Group that maybe even has something Open Play currently fundamentally inhibits... Trust.

No better place for a sociopath to turn up and start heating up his weapons...
If it wasn't for this game, we'd probably see a few of those on TV one day (except they're too weak, too shy and afraid to ever do anything in the real world).

If this wasn't due to ELITE having explicitly tailored for exactly these folks ever since release - such guys running rampant in other MMOs/Multiplayer games with any decent Admin around would be long banned...
Not surprisingly - they wouldn't be missed.

But due to the extremely poor and disastrous Design Decisions made surrounding that very topic - can't even blame them for following the call to spread terror and mayhem wherever possible.
This game - even after FDev finally having realized their terrible mistakes on the matter - will take a long long time to recover...

PS.
The usual Disclaimer :

Game of course needs a bit of everything - and even those guys shall have their fun. No reason to exclude them.
But it all needs its balancing as to make sense. All in its place and with the proper consequences of the good ol' action and reaction model.
Once we got all that in place (hopefully one day), such things should become far less of an issue.

This.. A hundred trillion times this.

If I could rep you 1000 times i would.

They do it to get attention. The kind of attention where people are visibly upset. Like this thread. This thread is exactly what these guys are after.

Mmmm... no Sapient - I think this thread is just funny :D - I haven't seen anyone upset here yet...

(but give it time and you'd probably be right :D )

Name calling, fantasizing about FD banning them to griefer purgatory, imagining various mental afflictions and defects, and chuckling about How True It All Is... and this isn't the only thread about it today. So if you want to split hairs about whether anyone is upset then suit yourself. Heck, you can dress the dog in whatever clothes you like, but everyone in the neighborhood can hear it barkin'.

Whatever. It's still attention and it's still exactly what the trolls are after.

Hey.. sorry mate if I've offended you - not my intention.

I never mentioned FD banning people - just the Mobius group - any afflictions I may have labelled anyone with were done purely in jest.

I hope hellbanning is implemented at some point. Until then - I'll maybe just lulzban any completely repugnant "players" and have a good laugh when they cry about it :D

There's no reason to remove them, keep them in Open but make all players and NPCs show as hollow on their radar, all with the name "CMDR John Malkovich", ranked Elite, flying Anacondas full of Biowaste.

Or just take away the docking holograms, and have "radio interference" garble the pad number.

Sure you can dock. You've got 5 minutes. I hope you are feeling lucky, and don't mind a few pad loitering fines.

-- Or --

Have their ships drop out 100,000ls from the star rather than near the nav beacons ;) Every system feels like one of those annoying binaries.

Yah know what?

I really don't give a rip if the guy doing it is a saint in real life. They could actually be a decent person. I can make that distinction. hell, I don't care what they're doing in open or with their friends.

but when you break the rules of a private group to ruin a stranger's good time - in the game, you're a and deserve whatever punishment is coming your way. A person who goes out of their way to bring grief in something that is supposed to bring joy is not the kind of gamer we want in the community.

it's much easier to get a kill when the victim isn't expecting it, sort of like sneaking up behind someone and bashing them over the head as hard as possible then kicking them while they're down.

it's no doubt followed by a brag to their friends about how they managed to beat so-and-so in a fight. yeah right, some fight.

i got killed by one of those cheesewits, i never opened fire on him once because i figured if i killed him, he'd name me as the instigator - or more likely he'd log out if he began losing

Someone deliberately joining a rule-based game in order to break said rules, to annoy people, is at great risk of being labelled a "jerk", yes.

Try it on a sports field and they'll get heckled and sent off. Try it in a game of pool at my local and they'll get an elbow to the face, then a knee to the face, then a boot to the face. AND be called names. ;)

In this sanitised virtual environment of ours, there is simply voiced community disapproval on one side, and egging on by peers on the other.

Honestly, MP gaming is like Jackass, sometimes... just without the charisma, ingenuity and guts. :)

I get that the rules of a private group should be respected. But It's up to the group to enforce those rules, not FD. And calling names wont help to enforce those rules at all.

Maybe they are just pretending to be jerks for the game. Yeah, sure they are. :)
And I sure hope that you're not as condescending as this in real life.

I'm a lot worse in real life, especially when people keep insisting on nonsense and I get tired of pointing out the obvious and just want to end the conversation.

You should know that nagging is pretty much the worst way to do that. If you want to end the conversation, just get out.

just wright down their name in the contacts of a old phone you arnt using when meeting a commander scroll threw phone if name is on there kill commander or egg on so he gets wanted when he shoots you. Also you can fallow him to station scan while in station range and ram him into grill. police scan him. station fires on him. ( may not work on all but i find it works on the vast majority of these type of people)

Just floating this idea, but it may have something to do with the obnoxious behavior of the members of your group on this forum on all topics PVP and piracy.

So you think when people can act as they please without any consequences whatsoever, they are not showing their true self? Someone call Plato and Socrates, obliterator is proving them wrong on the internet.
