Battlestar Galactica Play Style - Just for fun

Senior Intervention Message to "Old Guys", like me.....
.
I sniffed at the new BSG......grew up with and STILL love the original,....so to me in the new, the Vipers looked wrong, the Cylons looked wrong, the Cylon Raiders looked Wrong, the Base Stars looked wrong.......and Starbuck.........what the frak?......So I dug in and ignored it for a couple years.....
.
And then I caved in and watched it.........all of it.....Great beginning, hard work in the middle, challenging viewing, but for me the ending lifted it to among the greats. As odd as it sounds it had an emotional end to it that I had not felt since the TV series of Hitchhikers Guide..........something about the ending just worked.........sat there with tears streaming down my face......damn near perfect, and SO respectful of the original.....it's all still there, just "different"......dare I say it.....better........
.
I Highly recommend it, especially if you loved the original and turned your nose up at this version first time around.............

I remember that first "Starbuck's a fracking woman?" feeling when they first put it out there, so you're not alone. Boomer's a woman too? Nooooo! And a Cylon?

After the first brain freeze though it really works...

You also have to refer to "multiple DRADIS contacts" over the comms when ever you're in a wing :)

/oops missed that in the original post - apologies for repeating

Really good to see the enjoyment that this series obviousely brought us all.. i fell into it after a friend recommended it (missed it when it showed on Sky) and bought the Blu ray box. Had to ration myself to one a day else i would have sat in and watched them all and lost job and life.

Has to be one of the best produced series ever, quality gritty characters and acting... suspense... amazing battle scenes and all in all a generally well made and believable universe. Remember how surprised i felt than something 'new' and made to reap Credits was actually up to and beyond the quality of my existing favorite Sci Fi Series at the time.

Aaaaaa sorry to wax lyrical but suspect you guys know the feeling. Anyone who hasnt watched it, dont consider - just buy the box set on blu ray and enjoy.

So say we all :)

In my eyes it was the best TV show ever made. Swimming with depth and story. Even if you aren't a sci-fi fan, it stands on its own as a drama. I loved it from start to finish and re-watch it every year like its a tradition.

Some of the best moments:
Pegasus arriving
Raid on the cylon fuel depo when the containers detach from the ship and the vipers are mag clamped to it.
Galactica jumps in to New Capricas atmosphere, launches vipers and jumps back out again before hitting the ground. (Show me anything as fraking awesome as that anywhere)
Pegasus to the rescue during exodus
Stealth ship
Every time Gaius Baltar opens his mouth!!! Hilarious
The ending - Aww man that ending.

I could list hundreds more. I literally pine for this show and the characters. If you haven't seen Blood and Chrome that is worth a watch too.

Nice thread! Made me laugh a couple o times. And yes BSG (the new one) was one of the best scifi series ever made.

However... No BSG roleplay in Elite for me. That story is about some other guys n gals.

Just like so many characters in BSG - I am at the beginning stages of my own HERO'S JOURNEY (look this up if you want to understand the BSG character arcs - specifically the book 'The Hero With a Thousand Faces' bu Joseph Campbell).

My favourite moment in BSG is the whole Boomer story, and the analogy to Jonah and the whale. Check out the scene where she first goes into a Cylon base ship and tell me that isn't meant to be the belly of the whale.

So yeah, i'm down with this :)

DrakeAurum - "Only ever fly a Viper, insistently refer to it as a Colonial Viper, and arm it with all autocannons"

Sir, i only ever fly a Viper when in BSG mode - By your command.

CMDR Adama.

BSG got me to play space games and run a fanboy clan for a decade and counting.

What i want from ED sooner rather than than later is walking decks, boarding and as much independence from starbases as possible. Migrant, self-sufficient flotilla if you will.

If there's enough support for this we should start a group - dedicated to BSG roleplay. Pick a star on the other side of the galaxy and we will move there as a group, destroying criminals and maybe one day thargoids so we can find our eventual home.

Some ideas for group rules:

Once we encounter the thargoids - we can only use vipers for combat. The advanced systems of other craft are too easily taken out by viruses.
Try and get a few members to have orcas to simulate the fleet - which we have to protect at all times
The galactica should be the finest and biggest combat ship available at the time - whatever has the most firepower.
If there's enough interest in the group - maybe some people could play as the cylon faction.

Let's get more ideas going - seems like there's plenty of BSG lovers on here.

I like this idea... for starters as of today i am playing as per the OP's post. Decided.

Great program - a classic. I give it 6! Oh and I wouldn't mind 6 giving me... errr err err *shame*

yeah - you've revealed yourself now, Baltar-in-disguise. The Feds'll be watching you.

Mind you now, Sharon... *sigh* I guess we just have to be friends...

Well I love BSG... (2003) but emm... why do ppl have to kill immersion in games like elite by murdering the lore? why?
