Coalsack Nebula.. Any points of interest?

if you didn't visit it yet then HIP 63835 is fairly close to the coalsack, shapley 1 is over that way as well maybe?

Acrux and HR 5422 are also in the vicinity of HIP 63835 and well worth a visit - these 3 systems are on a fairly direct course to the Coalsack. There's also several big stars such as b Lupi in the area.

The 'Sack' itself is interesting, but not amazing. It actually looks better from a distance. The view from the rimwards side looking towards the galactic core, with dust clouds obscuring the galactic plane, is worth seeing.

Hi, yes I have been there to see the black hole, I plan to return again tonight while enroute. Thanks for the info on Shapley, it is actually quite a bit past Coalsack, will head over there anyway once I have explored the Nebula.

I thought the exact same thing about Orion nebula and Witch Head nebula. I got inside it and it looked exactly like normal systems. Disappointed.

You cant get inside Witch head. Orion and Barnard's is absolutely stunning, at least in VR, so I can't imagine it not being amazing on a 4k screen. Once inside any nebulae, you have to SC well away from any of the stars before you can appreciate the surrounding clouds.

When I say 'inside' I mean about 60 LY into the grouping of stars. I dunno though. I thought 2000 LS was far enough away, and I didn't see squat once I got 60 LY in. ???

Sorry, pics are taken in the rift so dont translate well to 2D. These are pics from nearby witchead & Orion/Barnard's about a month ago. The blue was inside a planetary nebula near Witchhead. Mind blowing seeing these clouds in real size

I saw the witch head like you have them. I did NOT see anything like the one pic you have where everything looks aqua. I also saw the orion like you have, but did NOT see anything like the last pic where you are surrounded by red clouds.

It seemed almost like when I got too close to the nebulae, space was just like normal. Graphic setting???

I have:
Model draw dist: max.
Texture: high.
Shadow: high.
bloom: med.
blur: on.
AA: SMAA.
Super S: 1.5.
Amb occlu: off.
environ qual: Ultra.
FX qual: High.
Reflection: High.
Material: Ultra.
Gal map: high.

With the exception of shadow qual and bloom, those are the max settings possible that are listed. Ideas? (sorry if highjacking thread).

No worries about hijacking, I got good info. regarding your issue, not really sure mate. My settings are the same as yours, pretty much maxed. Only difference is I edited some config files to increase planet textures to 4096 in Ultra. That shouldn't make any difference to Nebulae

Took two trips to that area. The cloud itself is fun to watch as you get closer, but it's ultimately a disappointment. I usually head down to Chameleon after that. Not much out there, but there are a ton of things in the Swoir sector beyond that that is still largly undiscovered if your looking to get your name on a few systems.
