ZX Spectrum Fans

Speccy Elite was my first ever contact with the Elite Universe, although to be honest, I didn't really get fully into the game untill I bought the miggy versions. After that I was hooked and I still am after all these years. The game was an awesome achievement at the time. I wonder if we will ever see it's like again

Wow, Crash was a large part of my childhood. :) I loved the artwork of Oliver Frey in particular.

Funnily enough I started Elite on the speccy and also progressed onto the Amiga version. Oddly though, I have never progressed past Competent on any version of Elite/Frontier that I have played, despite that fact that have spend years playing them!

ANy more spectrum fans?

With a renewed interest in Elite, and the fact that I had an old save in my attic, I've started playing it again.

I've done the Super Nova mission, Cloaking Device and Thargoid Invasion missions. Funnily, the ECM System Jammer worked for a while but then everyone's ECMs started kicking in when I fired my missiles. ECM Jammer was still present, so can't have been that it was destroyed.

The Thargoid mission was the easiest I thought; much easier than the cloaking mission.

Currently Dangerous, 2100 kills in and a third of my way to Elite...

Any more missions for the Spectrum that people remember? I've read that the Military Energy Unit is not present for the Speccy...

I just stumbled across this and though I'd share it.

The one that got the review of Elite:-

Ah so many memories. Thanks :D

Me too. I have only just recently got back into the speccy version to play it properly; I was too young to appreciate fully it the first time around.

I still have lots of crash magazines in my attic.

So jealous, mine all got thrown out when I moved from home :(
Along with all my miggy mags too :'(

I wonder too :)

The Amiga was truly ahead of its time. Relatively, its still the best computer I have ever used.

WTB - A modern day version of the A1200.. Now that would be something.

Good memories. Strangely I never played Elite on my rubber key 48k Speccy. I mostly did coding on it.
Wow... It's all coming back. Wrote a basic flight sim... A version of bomber, some 2d maze games, and of course, text adventures.
Dammit! Those really were the days.

lol.. typing with the rubber keys - that must have been fun.

wasn't that difficult ..... all the keys were multifunction - what you got depended on the modifier you used. programs in sinclair basic were easy to type because of that functionality.

Spectrum+ for me. Plastic keys. Spent too much time on it. Still in the loft, along with my LensLok and saved Elite commander. Also have the screenshot of when I became Elite.
In those days, the screenshot is just that, took a photo of the telly!
Also Lord of the Rings anyone? The maze in Moria was a real pain.
Down, up, down, south, down, down etc...
And Swords and Sourcery.
All classics and fondly remembered.

If I could only take one computer with me to a desert island, it would likely be a Speccy (although, it would probably be a +3 with a Multiface 3, so I could "Ram save" games rather than load em each time).

But Elite, on the Spectrum 48K, with the overlay, would be my one choice of game.

(Speccy modifier key programming was great). If you then got your Dad to rip out the innards and stuff them into a knock-off BBC micro keyboard, well then you were cooking with gas. PEEKing and POKEing all day long.
I still the miss the modifier keys a lot to this day. :-(

Also I might have been the only kid in the world who loved the Lenslok copy protection on speccy Elite. When not playing Elite I would wander around looking at stuff through it and bumping into things. Oh happy days.

My first computer was the Sinclair Spectrum +2A (yeah +2A) James Bond Action Pack with the Light Gun. I think we bought Crash for the games. The machine survived a year before we got the second hand C64 with Elite. (So it was probably Xmas 1990).
