FDL - I'm in the exec club

Bought an FDL yesterday. My first big ship if you will, from viper to vulture to here. As a bounty Hunter I now feel as though I've 'made it'. The ship isn't specced particularly well, I got her for 46 Mil from Founders World with just shy of 3 Mil to upgrade and insure. As you can imagine, I'm currently in solo mode... at least until I'm happy that I can cruise around in open without a sign reading 'particularly expensive bottle of luxury champagne to be popped at your leisure, sir' written on the hull.

So I feel like I'm part of that special club. The luxury yacht club. The club that says that in the cockpit of this sleek silver piece of awesomeness is a bounty Hunter that appreciates the finer things in life. Like a class 4 hard point but with smooth lines and gold trimmings.

There's not much point to this post. I just wanted to say thank you to FD for allowing me to showcase my grossly excessive taste in style and for giving me the opportunity to cut around the galaxy in a fine looking ship that just sings when I hit the boost button.

To quote - It's not money that buys you happiness, it's just better to cry on a Fer De Lance than a Sidewinder.

Enjoy your shiny codpiece!

Its a nice feeling buying a new ship. I recently bought a Python (after agonizing over an FdL or Python) and its exciting finding out the linits of your new toy. Its also gratifying building your ship up from nothing- the sense of achievement is wonderful.

I'm still deciding on FDL or Python.
HATE HATE HATE the jump range and fuel tank of FDL.
Only thing is I'm going to get the 'Conda after the next update (waiting IN CASE they release new ships along with it). That would make the Python redundant for trading --> FDL + 'Conda = best of both Worlds.
Just .... that .... jump ....range.....and .....fuel tank!!!

The jump range put me off, but the FdL sounds (and looks) like a beast. The Python purrs along but the FdL roars about like a lion.

Yes, it's strange how gratifying that is.

I was sat in a high tech station debating what to upgrade for about half an hour, and loved it. The outfitting section is surprisingly deep.

I have a python and a FDL I prefer the python for doing missions and solo kill bounty hunting, I got the fdl for conflict zone hunting, I made 1.8 mil in about 90 minutes at a hi conflict zone, the issue I had with they python in conflict zones was that you were constantly chasing things because the python couldn't turn and track in the melee very easily, where as the FDL is sweet for that aspect, the python in small mission or small wing bounty hunting is far better because you can also add in cargo space and discovery scanners so when doing rank progression you can do missions trade goods and ping systems and land on outposts , making it the best option for that gameplay mode,

Enty

I tried a FDL, fully specced, for a day or two recently. Sold it and got me a Vulture again, it's simply not a good match for the style of play/flying that I enjoy right now.

The best description of the FDL in my opinion is a Douglas Adams quote: "Looks like a fish, moves like a fish, steers like a cow" - plus it overheats when you look at it funny.

Maybe I'll try it again in the future when I need that speed... but hopefully by then I'll be able to afford a Clipper :)

i heard they were about the same so i never bothered looking at the FDL.

if the FDL's more agile than the Python, i might trash some of my fleet and buy one for a tryout

It is little more agile and you can finish the kill in fdl when python can't if other runs (speed) but gotta love python large guns. FDL with huge cannon or plasma cannon is great too though. And python looks more manly when fdl is cute ship

It's much more agile and much faster than the Python.
Sold! i'll look into getting myself one. might even hock a few bits off my Python to speed up the process...

---> bought one. the Python is currently in bits spread all over the lounge room floor, but at least i got to keep it as well as the FDL.

Indeed, the FDL is a great ship. It's probably the best overall combat ship in game currently. It definitely has the best balance in terms of combat capability:

Great damage
Great speed
Great tankability
Great Utility options
Great masslock values
Good agility

It can't do anything else, other than combat... but it does that exceptionally well!

I did almost exactly the same. Bought FDL yesterday with about 5m for upgrades. Obviously kept the insurance money back!

Then went looking for something to kill.... what I found is that I probably have my hardpoints wrong, but I do like it and it feels like a combat upgrade from the clipper.

Tonight I will play around with hardpoints and weapons for what works for me

Don't take too much notice of people that say the Class 4 cannon sucks... it's actually a very deadly weapon once you get used to it. I often take out power plants on Condas and other big ships in less than a clip.

I run 4 x Medium Pulse, which offer a good balance between power usage, damage, heat efficiency and time firing. I've ran a 2x Pulse and 2x Beam setup before, but I honestly didn't notice much difference in TTK and I wasn't too impressed overall.

I'm using a class 4 gimballed cannon, two fixed class 2 pulse lasers and a couple of gimballed class 2 multicannons. I find it's effective against just about everything.

Yeah, most people are REALLY surprised when they see how the Class 4 Cannon works:

Ohai, Hitsuke!

The jump range can drive you nuts and the damn thing heats up faster than any other ship in the game when scooping but its an AWESOME ship

I have used it extensively in PvP and it really shines.

I'm selling my FDL.
The range is just killing me. If I want to "hop" over to a CG; well it just isn't a hop. It takes forever and a day.
I LOVE the way it's been balanced re power management. Just that fuel tank............................................I have had to check every system for fuel scoopability / and or a station as backup. Sorry Mr FDL. Would have been cheaper to have kept you too!!!!
