Buckyball Run 7: It's not what ya do, it's how ya do it!

Click on the picture in the first post for a link to a clearer map.

As I read it: There are 11 stations listed, across 6 systems (Cate, Chaga, Chaona, K'uanele, Shesmu and Woloniugo). The race is to start at Cady City in No Chianga; call in at any 7 of the 11 stations, in any order; and then return to Cady City.

Yeah, this is it :)

CMDR Name: Cheetah

Thanks, I get it now. So one persons game plan might be to hit three stations in one system, 2 in another and 2 in another for example. Thats an interesting dynamic. Leaves room for all sorts of possible best routes.

Hey y'all, midway through day one and it looks like the pre-flight area is starting to fill up. Nice to see a mix of new faces and old. As far as the big board, CMDR Jaryd Moonshadow has managed to make it up into the Big Black.

So, before the rest of you start posting times and ruin it for me, I'd just like to say IN YOUR FACE JARYD! Wooooooooooooooo! I'm #1 Baby! Eat my FSD wake, son!

Sorry, have to get that in while I can. ;)

Meanwhile, welcome aboard Marshall and RobinJB! Sorry if there was any confusion in the rules. You probably just didn't read them right, because I never, ever make mistakes. Right guys? Right?

And also welcome back to some returning veterans! CMDR Samwell Drakhyr is back with his Cobra Back of Beyond, which took an amazing 10th place in BBR6 in a field full of longer-ranged Haulers and Asps. Also welcome back Cheetah for his fourth Buckyball, also a part of the very tight fight for first in BBR6, and of course, CMDR Reload, 2nd place finisher of BBR6 and champion of Buckyball 5. Reload's signature dish is "Hauler Flambé," a delightful entree where you take an ordinary Zorg-Peterson Hauler, heat it to 6,000 degrees and serve smashed on a docking pad with a fluffy topping of flame retardant foam. Cady City's gonna be SO happy to see you, Reload! Welcome back!

Yeah, we're mixing it up a little this time around. Rather than a straight A-B-C affair, I wanted to give CMDRs in all different kinds of ships some options. In previous races, jump range pretty much kept the Haulers in front. This time, supercruise technique and docking skills play a much bigger part... But as with all the previous races, it's route planning which will really give commanders an edge. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this race turns out. Back in Buckyball 3 there seemed to be a ceiling for the Sidewinder class that no one could break, until one Commander figured out how to shave off a jump and turned the race upside down. I'm hoping for that kind of magic here.

Anyway, sorry for any confusion in the race rules. I went back and tweaked them a bit to make it a bit clearer, but I did still leave the fine print in there just to see which CMDRs are paying attention. ;) Robin, Marshall, if you wouldn't mind going back and checking them out again for clarity, I'd appreciate it!

Much better thanks ElectricZ, I just did a couple of runs.. though I still got dicted in Chaga.. must go back after and obliterate the npcs there for upsetting my runs.
will keep at it.

Things I should have learnt from the last Buckyball Run:
- More haste, less speed.
- No matter how good your shields, they still won't protect you from a 300m/s impact.

The Cobra-sized dent near the mailbox of Renenbellot Market is evidence that I obviously didn't learn...

Edit: and the one at Biggle City...

I feel your pain, having crashed a second full-class-A Viper just below the mailslot at Ray Port.

I'm thinking I need to buy a Sidey Challenge ship and use it for my route testing!

On station and ready to race.

For my AI I'll choose Sirius the dog.

First run is done, time to update my thinking from Buckyball 6. Tried to smear my ship on the deck of every station.

Greetings to Cmdrs Drakhyr and Alot, it's always great to see fellow competitors in game

Rules are much clearer now thanks for the revamp. Spent the evening trying out several routes but I cant get under 30 mins. I am going to have to unlearn everything I know about docking safely and perfect the combat landing technique.

I've scouted out the area and I know where I'll be running, but I haven't gone round at speed yet. Easily distracted. :)

Had an odd incident at one of the stations en-route when a security Viper rammed me then came back and rammed me again a minute later.

And own up: which one of you left this enormous crater? :)

Breaking with tradition, the She Got The House is sitting under wraps down at Agartha waiting to stretch her legs for a long distance challenge.

For this entry, I'm going with my second favourite:

CMDR Name: Reload
Ship Name: Momentum Mori
Ship Type: Viper
Class: Open Unlimited
Favourite AI: Anything artificial that talks back is inherently untrustworthy.

All right the books are closed for today... Tallying up the scores and getting ready to update the big board. Stay tuned!

(looks at Jackie's picture)
Awww geez... First day! REALLY? Is it any wonder we have to keep moving this race? At least we haven't started a war this time. And that's not a request! CHEETAH SIT DOWN! I SEE YOU OVER THERE!

By the way, Marshall, remember you can get a 10% discount off a full ship wash at Larenz Giler's "AAAA Ships 'N' Service" at Cady if you mention the Buckyball. I bring it up because your ship seems to be covered with an inordinate amount of light tan dirt for some strange reason. You might wanna get that looked at.

(walks off muttering) Guess some people just can't wait for planetary landings...
