Halo reference

I just discovered a possible Halo Easter egg in Elite Dangerous. I traveled to the system
G 140-9 and entered the anning platform. I glanced over to the news section and saw the story "Hudson s/Swears to Succeed Where Halsey Failed!". The name Halsey caught my eye (I just finished reading "Halo: the fall of reach" yesterday) I continued to read the story and it was about a president named Halsey who is training children to become soldiers.

I may not be the first person to discover this so please don't be mad at me if I am not. This is my first thread.

You are, in fact, not the first person to have heard of President Halsey. She's been in the news a lot recently.

My guess: almost certainly not a Halo reference.

On the other hand, there are a lot of ways in this game when we can fill in the backstories for our personal characters. So I think its good you saw something like this. Maybe you can connect it to yorur pilot. I have done that with my CMDR Fen Harel a bit. It makes it less boring being out in the black when I can sort of imagine it being seen through the eyes of my character, where he has been, his conflicted feelings for the Empire, etc. It, late so this likely makes no sense. I need to go lie down, I think.

I believe it could be a Halo reference, though not an easter egg as she's often mentioned on Galnet. It's hardly a common name and would appear to be one that is developing a history of referencing- the name of Halo's Catherine Halsey would appear to be a reference to the character of the same name in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead.

Halo isn't exactly known for its originality lol. Ringworld, Dyson and all that.

There are hundreds of sci-fi references and allusions all over the galaxy (see buying Leathery Eggs at Ridley Station).

The last name Halsey generates 31,100,000 hits on Google, so I'd say it's common. My last name generates 59,700 Google hits. Halsey is a common name, quod erat demonstratum.

Maybe you're right, but are you in the States by any chance? I've google UK'd the name and it only returns 12,700,000. I think it's a more common American name, I don't think I've ever come across a Halsey here personally (and having worked with the UK passport service I've dealt with more British individuals' names than I care to mention). Perhaps google's globalised lessons can't always be applied to localities.
