Pretty disappointed

Hi,

So I was just wondering if they planned to do something about the fact that I've been playing this game since yesterday, had a hard time enough to understand the mechanics and now that I do I just spent the last 2 hours trying to find somewhere to dock on to do some missions. DECK REQUEST DENIED.

Everywhere I go, there is like 10 people waiting to dock on, how am I suppose to play ? I just spent almost 100$ for this game and I can't even play!

This is an awful system, you HAVE to do some kind of queue system, and remove the ability to acces ANYTHING from the deck. People have to move to the hangar this is just ridiculous.

Appart from that, this is a great game, I just wish I was able to play.

Sorry for my bad english.

Try switching to Solo for docking if your request is denied in Open. Even in Solo you might get a better chance if you Save&Exit to the main menu and then log back.

Ninja'd!

It's a poor fudge of a solution, but switch to solo, dock, switch back to open works.

It isn't ideal, certainly and I agree a queue would be best. Until that happens you have a couple of options. Restart and hope you get a different instance, or more simply logout into solo to dock.

docking at outposts can suck a lot of the time as players tend to occupy them for a very long time, just hop into solo for the docking and then back to open until FD actually does something about it.

The solution is to move away from the starter systems to space that is less crowded. You'll get the same missions everywhere in space, so you won't be making less money. There's been a big influx of new players with the steam release and they have yet to disperse into the wider reaches of space, so naturally you're going to have trouble docking if you're at a very popular outpost. Either that or play in solo when you need to dock at a crowded outpost.

Actually, after a while of playing and larger range of your bigger ship it wont happen anymore. After I switch from sidewinder to hauler it happened not once for me. I allways play open.

All I can say is...

Get away from the starter systems.
Get away from the starter systems.
Get away from the starter systems.
Get away from the starter systems.

The downside of all these new players coming on board is that these systems are completely clogged full with players and the matchmaking servers are over capacity at the moment. Jumping to LHS 3447 is like enabling slow mo at the moment. ;)

Wait until your canopy is blown out into space and you are stuck waiting.

Only thing is I don't really know wich systems to go... This map is quite complicated haha. Do you have an exemple of system that I should head to?

Just head out anywhere. Eventually you'll find a system you like with reasonable trade and can make it your base if that's what you want to do. Seriously stick with it, the learning curve is steep at first and many mistakes will be made, but soon it becomes intuitive and progress speeds up. Enjoy the game :)

Funny, I have been playing since the middle of January, most of the time in Open Play, and during this time I have received "Docking request denied" exacty one (1) time. I was completely surprised when that happened, so much so that I thought I did something wrong when I requested docking. Only later on I learned that you actually can get a docking request denied if all the slots are full.

Click around on your map - you don't have to go but probably 3 or 4 jumps away to get away from the crowd - and find a system with a population in the billions and is described as wealthy in the description. They'll have a strong economy and have lots of trade, and once you get friendly with the faction who controls the station there you'll get a lot more jobs on the bulletin board. Head to that system and figure out what it is they sell, and what they're looking to buy. (Agricultural stations will sell food, obviously. and buy equipment. Industrial stations make hardware, but need food.) From this new system look around and spot a neighboring system who sells what your current system needs. If you're lucky, you'll find a two-way trade route where you can make money going both ways.

Hang around there for a bit and get to know the local system, run a few bulletin board jobs to make a little extra money and earn some rep. The friendlier you get with the station and its faction, the better the missions will be. Once you've got the cash, upgrade your ship, figure out if you want to trade, shoot things or explore, or maybe do all three to keep from getting into a grind. Once your comfortable at the controls of your ship and have more range, you can think longer term.

The map lets you sort by "allegiance," which boils down into three big factions. There's the "Federation," which wants to be like the noble Federation of Star Trek, but is actually quite corrupt and controlled by corporations. There's the "Empire," which is basically an ethical free-for-all where slavery, drugs, weapons, pretty much everything is legal, but everyone is kept in line by the rich and powerful which keeps it from being lawless. Then there's the "Alliance" which are a bunch of systems who don't want to be Federation or Empire, and promise to work together to defend each other in case of war. You will run into all kinds of different factions in Alliance space. There are also "independents" who don't ally themselves with anyone.

But for now, find you a rich system away from your starting point and the traffic will clear up. The further you go, the less people you will see. Even though there are a fair number of pilots who will gank you just because they're jerks, almost every commander I've met out in the sticks has been friendly and cool.

Plus there's a whole lot more free parking spaces. ;)

Good luck CMDR!

+1 to this complaint; some queuing system is needed.
But glad to read the suggestions in this thread (switch to Solo momentarily; get away from the starter systems) :)

I was going to say that it's annoying that "Multiplayer Frontier" introduced this problem; but actually now I think about it; docking requests in Frontier could also be denied due to random NPC craft
