Elite / Frontier Ridiculous

I've never had this before, and can't figure it out. :(

Waiting for an arrival form hyperspace, and I'm dogged by pirates and bounty hunters. Not an issue, this is what happens when you assinate and carry dangerous passengers. :p

The issue is this Imp Courier that's plagueing me. There's 3 that turn up one after another. And no matter what I try, the third one anihalates my ship, then disappears. :S

Its always the instant the 20Mw beam appears i see the message of 1t cargo destroyed and nothing on radar. I'm in my escape pod and there's no ship anymore. I've even buffeted and upped my sheilds to 30 and given myself a stowmaster, and the thing does exactly the smame, no matter how I manouvre, and is gone from radar. Its almost like Its a One shot auto target 10,000mw beam and hyperspace all in the same action.

Really annoying now. Attempt 25(ish) now, in my correct ship that is.

That should be 'Ridiculous' ;)

Anyhow, did you manage to kill it or did you reload?

I'm just finding out with my new commander how pathetically weak Asps are, even with 8 shld gens I sometimes get blown up in 1-2s by a couple of puny ships with beams! Not long enough to dodge or shoot back. Dodging with engines off mode seems to give variable results..........

Because Asp is built for dodging, not for sitting in place and absorbing enemy fire.

Asp is large enough to allow a lot of defensive equipment, and decent weaponry, it also has narrow front/back and side profiles making it reasonably difficult target and, at worst, limiting time enemy laser has to burn through the shields.

If you're dodging you should be difficult to kill. 20MW beam will be dangerous even on glancing hit, but the only ships that can mount such weapon are much less manoeuvrable than Asp. 4MW will only be dangerous as sustained beam or with multiple attackers.

You should only dodge with engines off and results depend on attack vector. Try to not have an enemy above or below as asp is flat, but wide, and try to dodge in the right direction. Asp can outmanoeuvre anything larger and good percentage of ships smaller than itself.

There is a reason why it's considered one of the best all around craft in Frontier.

I do dodge, they still gonna hit ya sometimes though ain't they? :p

As I said in the line you quoted, lol, I do dodge with engines off mode.
Good tip about not having them above or below though, by shear fluke that's what I was doing most of the time, they still hit me rather too often though. Guess I'm not dodging right, too slow or too fast, no idea.
And yea I'd like to dodge in the right direction, but how am I gonna know that?

I've got a different problem atm, trying to do a classified mission & I can't find any base to photo :(

That's what you have those shields for. If sometimes is indeed sometimes, there isn't a whole swarm of enemy craft (like when you **** the police) trying to melt your hull all at once and this sometimes doesn't involve 20MW or better laser your shields should keep enemy fire well away from your hull.

The best vector for dodging would be towards enemy craft and slightly to the side (just enough to avoid the beam). This way you're closing in, so the enemy becomes a better target, but at the same time you become harder to track (because if two objects move with the same velocity, the closer one will seem to move faster due to having higher angular speed), then if they can no longer track you, you have to brake'n'turn, then smelt their backside as they try to break off and re-engage.

I agree with you completely! :D

Fixed title as it was bugging me :)

Lol :)

Like I said, I have 8 shlds, even so some of those little ships have rather too good aim, even when dodging, with a bunch of them they sometimes annilhate me in 1-2s.
Still finding out how quickly I have to veer from side to side (on route to enemy ship) to dodge, I found quick flipping (switching from going left to right) useless, more spaced out flips helped somewhat.
