Good Imperial 'Home' System

Hi all - I'm looking for some tips on a good Imperial system to use as my base. I'm only a couple of weeks into playing and my approach so far is to choose a system as my 'base' so that my stored ships are all in the same place; that way I am free to switch roles between trader/explorer/combat from a common home point. I had chosen 'Shente' as my base because it looked pretty good when I first arrived but, now that I am progressing, I realise that it doesn't have enough options in the shipyard or outfitting. My criteria would be:

- space stations close to the arrival pt (obv!)
- at least one each of agricultural and industrial for when I want some quick trading options
- at least one well stocked shipyard/outfitting
- Imperial control (personal preference)
- reasonable option for some bounty hunting when I fancy a quick blast of pew-pew
- NOT a 'popular' spot (rares, etc) so not too crowded
- anything else that I haven't thought of as a relative noob!

I'd rather sell up and move now before I collect too many stored ships and have to burn through sidewinders as shuttles just to move them!

Grateful for any tips.

The Avalon system. Noctilux station. Near the core of the Empire, about 20-30 ly from Achenar, station is less than 200ls from entry point and as I remember it has good outfitting options. My advice for trading is to base it around hi tech systems and this is one. Hi tech to refinery routes are usually pretty profitable.

If you want to do some digging for good places then use eddb.io to look for them. Find a specific item that is from hi tech, or whatever world type you choose, near to Achenar. Then find a few routes based off that.

Try cpc 22 212. The main station is roed odegaard station and is 50 ls from jump in. It's a high tech also with a good selection of kit and lots of other good systems nearby.

Thanks guys - I'll check them out. I quite fancy being based in 'Avalon' anyway, just because of the name!

Liaedin

Good Patronage system, surrounded by the protection of The Federation.

:D

My base is in Bestii on the Imperial border good trade runs, all type of economy systems neraby

Thanks guys - though I'm not sure about being too close to the Federation border - those Federation System Authority Vessels are a trigger happy bunch who seem to regard all kinds of fun recreational activities as 'illegal' for some reason! ;) Still, I'll add those 2 to my list - looks like I'll be unpacking my Exploration Hauler from storage and going 'visiting' :)

Make sure you have an independant close by with a Black Market - Imperial stations dont have a great deal of fondness for Blackmarkets and can also assist in cashing in some of those federation bounties.

Will send a PM also

At least where trading is concerned most serious traders will not tell you where they live. That would be self defeating. My advice: Go around, find your own little space. Sooo much more rewarding.

Bamber - many thanks got the really helpful PM and replied. +Rep for such a comprehensive response.

Pyrion - I am sure that you are right but I don't think I'm playing enough (~6 hrs / week) or hauling enough (18T in a Hauler) to drag down anyone's proft margin!

i found an imperial system close to fed space, but near the edges of colonised space.

nice & quiet, so there's no-one destroying the profitable trade runs.

hi-tech (always important for the home base) but with extraction, industrial, refinery, and agricultural systems all within one jump
not quite perfect though, as the extraction systems only have outposts, not big stations (so no big landing pads)

spent time doing deliveries and missions rather than trading for big profit.
once i was allied with all the local systems, started seeing a lot of BIG MONEY jobs, 150k for transporting 20t of gold type thing, and easy to combine with profitable routes.
definitely worth making the effort to be allied with a few factions first...

Lombi and Meliontit are nice. Next door to each other, good supply of ships and upgrades. Cockaigne (also next door) often has conflict zones if you like that kind of thing.

Sitakapa and surrounds has everything you need within 15ly, inc federation space should you need that and the lave cluster is reachable, too.

LTT 1509 was a home for me for a long time. Bought my Vulture there. Payne-Scott Enterprise is a station not far away from entry point and they've got everything you need.

Xuangu- Imperial (Hi-Tech) system with Anarchy and all other system types within 3-4 jumps. Main station Schroter Terminal something like 175Ls from nav beacon

Anopheles/Freelancer/Remo - thanks for the tips. One of the many things that I love about ED is how knowledgeable and helpful the people on this forum are. It genuinely feels like a community :)
