The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

Hey guys,

Picture this, I'm at a RES in my Cobra. Scanning n shooting...the instance is hot, got Condas, Pythons, Fed dropships and Clippers popping in.
Money to be made right?
So i'm all happy, I take down a Conda but don't get the bounty. Another player (in a Clipper) takes the kill....fair enough....I drop to 0 m/s to assess the situation.

AND out of nowhere he comes and rams me and then I get a message from him (and im paraphrasing) Don't try to steal my kills....blah blah blah. My words to him were "Blow me" THEN he rams me again. Softer this time (guess his run up wasn't as big)

I think to myself "what a ".....That's not my problem though. My problem is perhaps twofold... Could be a bug? I don't know...

1. This is assault, he rammed me so hard my shields went down and i lost 30 of my hull ( I was a full health ) This warrants a bounty!
2. I don't know how the devs would distinguish an accident ram (they happen to all of us from time to time) and a off charge from a psycho whackjob.

I wanted to head back to my station and get my vulture and duel him. What a ponce.

Anyway, what can be done....bottomline is this IS an aggressive act intended to damage/destroy me...If I didn't have shields i'm pretty certain i would have been space dust.
A bounty should have been placed upon him.....

thoughts?

Oli

Get the vulture and kill him. Watch his clipper burn. Then pay the fine off.

Some one tried repeatedly to ram me as i exited, i sat watched, took photos as the cmdr missed and slammed hard into the station, I just laughed.

+Rep for having the patience to run the clock down and stop to take a pic. (great pic btw so totally worth it!) And this is why ED is a such a great game, despite the flaws and griefers.

MOBIUS is a PvE group and is Bounty Hunter and Pirate free unless, of course, someone joins the group just to cause disruption until they're kicked out. Apart from Conflict Zones, MOBIUS members are not allowed to attack ANY other player, for ANY reason, collectible bounties notwithstanding. From the website...

Policy while playing in the ElitePvE group:

  • These rules apply while being online in the ElitePvE group.
  • It is not allowed to attack another player for any reason outside of Conflict zone. Conflict zones special rules apply, see below.
    • Players having a bounty, no matter how high, are no exceptions
    • Ramming another player on purpose is considered attacking, of course
  • It is not allowed to pull (interdict) another player out of supercruise
  • It is not allowed to accept or carry out missions which have another player as a target while playing online in the group.
  • Inside Conflict Zones the following rules apply:
    • It is not allowed to attack a neutral player (a player not having chosen a faction)
    • It is not allowed to attack another player while being neutral (not having chosen a faction oneself)
    • It is not allowed to attack another player on the own chosen faction
    • Only if both players have activly chosen opposing factions may they engage in combat
    • It is not allowed to exit and enter a warzone in rapid succession for the sole purpose of targeting other players. Only if the wrong faction was chosen by mistake or by mutual agreement of the present players (For example in order for everybody to join the same faction).

So in other words they voluntarily nerfed the entire game. All the Carebears all in one group.... (well, almost all, these threads still exist).

You don't need a full stack of bars in Engine to boost, just 2/3rds or so.

Not strictly true. I think you will find this is dependent on ship type and the power management system you have on board.
With just a bog standard T7 - no added extras or upgrades - I do need the full stack.

A few gentle words would suffice. Had he not warned you about the bounty he wanted then you should have said something like the following:

"Didn't know you wanted that kill, but I don't appreciate you ramming my ship. The next Anaconda that appers you can have it, but I get the next two because of the damage you caused my ship."

Failing that, you win some and lose some, thats life, move on.

Your not going to like me OP but my group and I patrol 2 RES sites in a system near Sol.

We consider this our home system, we use various tactics to get people to either join our group (first option) or be forced to leave. We like the mechanic that we can control a system, we've had a few fight back but most submit and share bounties. We'd rather share bounties or you get nothing at all. We keep our word though if you submit to us and pay tribute we DO NOT hurt you. Space and RES sites are a dangerous place so safety in numbers etc. I agree ramming should be a crime and we understand we take the WANTED status and fine if we do open fire. I'd say 1 time out of 10 we normally use force most people join us or leave the RES unhurt.

I play in both Open and Solo depending on my goals for that play session. However, one thing, that is always true in an open world that allows PvP...

RED = DEAD

Bounty amount is irrelevant.

Playing in Open you should expect anything from other players, since Open is like public multiplayer Server in any other game like Battlefield, Counter-Strike etc. and there you can meet campers, team-killers and ever cheaters (at this moment I do not know how actual is this in Elite...).

If you want more "controlled environment" you can join in Group mode.

Bounty awards should be based on % of damage done?

Maybe I totally don't get how the bounty system works, but from what I've seen killing pirates at nav beacons, it seems that whoever gets the kill shot gets the credit.

Last night when I showed up at a nav beacon, I saw 2 players taking down an Anaconda. I went in and opened up with my autocannon, and after 5 seconds the thing exploded and I was awarded 125k.
Later on I attacked a Cobra by myself, took it down to 5% and then another player swooped in and popped it, and I didn't get any credits for it.

How exactly is this supposed to work? Doesn't seem very fair that I put 5 seconds of work into an Anaconda and get the full reward for it or that I put all the work into a Cobra but get nothing from it.

Post it in suggestion forum.
Though I think it's already been suggested, quite sure we've had this discussion before.

Anyway, if you are bothered by players just go somewhere else or punish them for kill stealing.
When I fire a broadside from my Python on players when they attack my targets, they usually get the idea and get away from me.

I know how you feel. However, if you are winged up with another player (or players) you share the bounty evenly between all wingmen who hit the 'wanted' ship.

I have the rule, whoever gets to the NPC first gets the kill. If someone is shooting already I steer clear and let them have the bounty (I might hang round to watch how good the player is). When I find a ship I quickly boost (easy in a Cobra) and get that kill before other players arrive.

Primary, Secondary and Tertiary expectations in those games are to kill or be killed - also the loss in dying isn't an insurance claim, it's a respawn and resume killing or be killed

Could be overly complex to implement like that and not 'realistic'. Current system works pretty much like any other game, empty a clip into a baddy in Battlefield and the other guy gets the kill from the single round he fires.

Air combat? it's the guy who finishes the enemy that gets the kill. It's the way it is, use it to your advantage.as well.

It hasI been suggested numerous times. For some reason they seem to prefer the current method that promotes "kill stealing".

It's kinda hard to implement a % of damage when you have power plant kills as well. Imagine you've been pummelling a condas hull, got it down to 20%, but didn't touch the power plant. Then someone else snipes the plant with a couple of PA shots. If it was % based then you'd get the kill, and the other guy would be on the forums instead. :)
