My custom control always get reset

each time I took tens of minutes to set it, and after some days it got reset.... what happened? has anyone met the same problem?

It happens to me when I unplug the joystick and run the game, like bindings get restored to default.

If the devices you've bound to your custom scheme are not present when you boot the game up it can't make sense of your scheme and thus resets anything that was bound to a device that isn't there any more I believe.

so.. can i get it back? if I plug my joystick in again?

rename your custom file to something you recognise like MyCustom.binds

you can find it Start/user(Your user)/AppData/local/FrontierDevelopments/EliteDangerous/Options/Bindings

Rename the CustomBind file to something you like then it will always be saved no matter what.

When you load the game go to options controls and in the dropdown will be your named file to load the bindings you saved.

I think this was discussed before. In theory if you plug the joystick into the same USB port it was used in before, your saved controls should appear in the "controls" list. You might need to shut down and restart the client though.

Anyway, you can back up your custom bindings file here:
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\Custom.binds
and restore it if you lose it for any reason :)

EDIT: Druid's answer is much better than mine. Or backup somewhere else AND rename it for double indemnity. Thanks Druid!

Until you fix your problem save your binding after setting it, then it will take you seconds to get it back !!!

Look in(Win 7 example) :
C:\users\"your user name"\appdata\local\frontier development\elite dangerous\options\bindings
or similar, put all the files in another safe place(after binding and saving your setup) but I reckon you only need custom.binds

p.s. don't just leave a copy of it in that same directory just in case !

If you cant see AppData you need to turn on view hidden folders

Start/control panel/folder options/view click show hidden folders

<sniped, darnit>

In order to save your carefully setup custom bindings, browse down the following location:-

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

Copy the file "Custom.binds" to a new file, say "cosloli.binds"

Edit the "StartPreset" file, and change the entry within to "cosloli".

Start game, the new profile "cosloli" will be active, unless you have connected a joystick, then all bets are off, and you will have to manually switch to this profile.

I usually bind my joystick as second option in settings, as I use it only for bounties, and I am using K/Mouse for trading.
I would find more suitable if game remembers my first bindings and just ignore "missing" ones (from unplugged joystick).

Just for reiteration as I and my good monkey friend have said , if you change the name of the custom.binds file to something else you will no longer have any issues no matter what as any updates will not over write the file accidentally or will any misshaps re the JS . Good practice is to then save a copy your renamed binds file in a separate location just in case your pc blows up so you dont have to spend ages redoing it after an install, just copy it back into the correct location.

Happy binding

Gorr use the same method BH.binds with your js setup and Trading.binds on another one . Then you just need to go to options controls and choose which one you want. Also that will allow you to flick between the two in game if you are interdicked at speed

Of course I have saved both M/K+Joy and just M/K binding files, but I just don't find "normal" to have to replace bindings every time I plug out my joystick in mentioned setup.

Chill out!

Ah, FD need to add an auto detect when the js in plugged in . Cant you just leave the JS in and switch bindings?
