Richer for WHO?....not me and certainly not for others that want no part of non-consensual pvp. Give it up....at best all you will accomplish by goading FD into removing solo/group(which they will not do) is remove those people from the game altogether and deny FD of any further revenue derived from future purchases...really brilliant there Woody...

Im not trying to goad, irritate or inflame anyone. I'm simply saying how I see the game.
If anything I would say I'd like to encourage players to at least try open.
And it's not because I'm a pvp freak I'm not. As I said I genuinely find open to be rich and varied compared to solo.

but if you don't that's fine too, I'm not arguing for the removable of solo.

You may not be but so many others, if not advocating removal of the solo option, are in the "stick it to the solo players" camp. I'm sick of reading that solo players are not entitled to enjoy the game the way they want and deserve less rewards simply because they choose solo and private group....really, really sick of it.

This is the last post ill ever make since i quit and uninstalled the game yesterday

I'm a solo player only. They should make it that you cant switch from solo to open. But they need to bring multiple account. Two at least. So that someone who wants to play open occasionally can still do it. The reason i want this to happen is that honestly, i can't play games you can't save and reload anywhere anytime. I hate it. I don't have time and patience to waste losing two weeks of effort over 10 seconds of distraction (what happened yesterday). not anymore. But the only way to have a save and reload system is to have it in solo an make both modes separated. Otherwise it's not fair to the open player, obviously. I'm 100% ok with never being able to go to open. 100% ok even with my world being separated from the online one and not being influenced by solo players.

HOnestly i'd have had a better time in this game in a regular offline mode where i can do what i want with the game. I could even cheat (which i would right now if there was any way to get back what i lost but there isn't really, i know, i looked at the cheat forums, i was gonna risk it) and that wouldn't be anyone's business

I realised that while ive loved space sims for my whole life, i hate mmos. This proved it once an for all. The only way to make this close to a SP game is separate the game modes completely. I realise FD doesn't have the interest, but they've lost a player who actually wishes he could get his money back. Life is too frustrating already, i don't need to lose my mind over a game. And im afraid I absolutely did.

Unless the amount of players put off by the solo crowd is greater then they're quids in, aren't they?

Presumably, if ED shipped with OP as the only mode, you wouldn't be playing the game now, right? In fact, you would never have bought it.

It's funny because I'm kind of the opposite to you in that I love OP and the fact that Private and Sp groups can affect the galaxy has put me off the game though I haven't unistalled it yet.

As for an offline mode most definitely! Why should paying customers be made to connect to FD's crap servers just to play a game and also, why not different accounts???

There's the possibility that it might not have been funded by the Kickstarter had it not had solo / private groups and offline included at that time. We'll never know though.

I think you can know. Just look at the uproar over the dropping of the Offline Mode. It was a bad storm. There were some who suggested that OffLiners were responsible for reaching the initial goal. Many shouted for refunds.

I think the furore over Offline-Gate just shows how many people wanted to play on their own without interaction. So now back to the matter at hand. Kill Solo? I have just three words for you: ARE YOU MAD?

I'd be willing to bet some serious scratch that there is about a 70-30 split between the PVE crowd and the PVP crowd, in favor of the PVE croud. Just a logical guess, as this is exactly how the greater amount of these sorts of games usually break down.

Multiple accounts, can't you just buy another copy of the game? I can think of so many reasons to not have multiple characters for one account. Not gonna splane it to you though.

Depends on the PvP type.

Open or "surprise" PvP is probably closer to 90/10 (Just judging by how few open PvP servers are supported by most MMOs). But that number shifts greatly when consensual PvP is involved.

or they can just make a 4th option. Solo/Private/Open/Open-only . Once on you cant change

guarantee tons of people who swap reguarly will want to go there, why? Cause nobody is grinding credits to kill npcs faster, everyone eventually wants to go open once they are built up :)

Salute Commanders,

Well said sir. That point right there should end the "which came first the chicken or the egg" discussion.
Elite has ALWAYS been a single player game, and for FD to incorporate the ability to interact with others over the internet is awesome on their part. Too bad they didn't just stick with solo and coop, then we wouldn't have all this belly aching, but they chose to take a chance and include the pew pew crowd. I salute them on their vision. I hope it works out for them. I myself am perfectly happy. So stop trying to make this game into something it was NOT intended to be. Please. Just kick back and wait to see how it all works out.
If you don't enjoy the game as it is, take a break and wait for the patch that satisfies you. Yes, you spent money on this game. Yes you CAN play this game.
I liken this situation to the real life situation where people want everything for everyone in community, and vote for higher taxes, and everything being legal. Then they find out the cost is too high and they cannot afford to live there anymore so a group of them migrate to a nice, quiet, satisfied community, and start screaming to make everything legal and raise the taxes to cover them. *SIGH*
Good luck.

I am in total and utter shock. Daffan, you actually made a suggestion that doesn't involve changing anything I care about. However I think your new mode will probably be called "Iron Man Mode".

I love the "1.5" player element (more than 1 player, less than multi-player ;) to Solo play, the fact that other players can affect prices etc. and vice versa, that we can have an impact in the game in community goals, without the hassle of interdiction for our cargo or even just for the hell of it. Add in combat logging and Open Play makes even less sense to me.

I can understand why people like Open Play, and I'd love to try an "Elite Arena" where I could dogfight PvP, but why play a game where you can be busy exploring/trading/mining and/or contributing to a CG, and then be suddenly jumped and destroyed by players who are - effectively - playing a different game? It's a bit like being out having a kick-around with your buddies, then one of them turns on you and starts kicking your head in. "I'm playing UFC! Give me your lunch money! I win!" ;)

I can see why people would want Solo players 'handicapped' in CGs, but if artificial handicaps are added to Solo players, I'm out of any CG. Solo might be easier, but then I've heard in Open you often don't see many Cmdrs so it's not dramatically different. Plus in Open you can form Wings to help out, in Solo you're all on your own. So it's not that black-and-white.

I'm still noob and I always play open now. It's fun and I've made a few friends in game already. The benefits of winged trading really helped me get started. Also and without wanting to troll srsly I keep finding peoples rubbish on the a14 in England where I'm from. They usually come attached with a brief message saying I don't play open at all. Let me know if any of these are yours and I'll mail it back to u.

What I get from the post you quoted is that what he truly wanted was the offline mode; his proposal of separating solo from open was more so savegames in solo could be made local (or granted the same kind of manipulation capabilities local saves allow).

I think you can know. Just look at the uproar over the dropping of the Offline Mode. It was a bad storm. There were some who suggested that OffLiners were responsible for reaching the initial goal. Many shouted for refunds.

It was a reasonably close call — it succeeded by about 20%, and before the offline announcement was made, trend analysis sites were pointing to the KS failing — so I think it very likely that, without the extra backers that the offline mode brought, the KS wouldn't have succeeded. I know that I wouldn't have backed it if offline wasn't promised.

Well, I've certainly got my own thoughts and opinions on exactly this subject and other stuff connected with the decision to drop offline mode (if, in fact, it ever existed as morre than a means of getting more is backers on board.) so I find what you said rather interesting.

I'd be all over a proper offline mode so much. Solo isn't any thing like solo enough for my likening.
