I want auto pilot

If they did slam it for being boring, I have no idea where they stated it as it was before I even had internet! Lol. There was no going to a forum to look for the best trade routes etc. The Amiga booted off floppy disk and away you went!

If the docking computer is an indication, you probably turn it on and when you come back your on the wrong end of the Galaxy :p ( yes I know it has been improved and gets another improvement in 1.3)

Personally, I'd vote down an click button and do nothing autopilot, first time you get interdicted by a NPC or player while using that and loose your so without having the rebuy.... Well knowing this forum, I think we all know what will happen. Again, my opinion and y'all would never catch me with one of those.

I can't state for the original poster, but the autopilot for me is not so I can leave the computer - it just does the work for me while I sit there and watch it unfold.

And that could be the beauty - it could have random glitches so unless you were there, it'd be at your own risk.

I actually think they should do that with the frame shift drive - it randomly breaking and dropping you millions of light years away! It'd force people to maintain their ships!

Im kinda yes and no on this. On the one hand, how would a person actually be able to fly a FTL ship? The light would red/blue shift out of our visible range, and lets be real, why would a space ship not have auto pilot? 25th century, thats standard equip on your lawn mower, much less your t9. On the other hand, yeah, whats the point of playing if you arent playing. So, make it optional, make it take up a class 3 spot or bigger, make it unable to react to interdiction and give the pirates new prey.

You know if they ever did introduce auto pilot the next request will be let me teleport instantly to any location in the game. The game is about flying, if you don't wanna fly a ship then this isn't the game for you.

Computers could be to shift the red/blue shift back into our visual range. Auto pilot was ban because it made humans lazy and to dependent on computers plus to many autopilots evolve into fully fledge AI for them to be considered safe.

Please, FD, introduce an auto-pilot. I could do a brisk trade in the commodity known as 'AFK Tears' when they start getting interdicted and destroyed while watching the latest Spongebob episode instead of paying attention to what's around them. :D

That is what happens in EVE when you trust the computer for those jumps. And jumping into systems with suns close together? The computer will try to jump and explode.

I'm confused by the OP, if he's bored of travelling because you find it repetitive why would auto pilot make it less repetitive? Or do you want to just immediately be at your destinatation, then auto dock. Sell and buy some stuff click another button and end up somewhere else. That wouldn't be a space sim, if you find flying the actual Space ship the boring bit then don't play a space sim!

@OP: I hope you still love the flight sim part of this space game, because it is actually its best and only worth playing feature for players with a ton of gameplay hours. Otherwise you got simply bored of the game and need to take a long break untill new goodies will arrive.

If it's as dumb as the docking computer, it would drop them out of frameshift and immediately max the throttle and try to dock with the star. LOL

Not that we're likely to get one, but ye gods, I can see all of the potential hilarity that thing would cause. :D

Havn't any of you ever travelled to Hutton orbital in Alpha Centauri? Been there twice, wont go again, a couple of hours of my life just wasted... :(

I want the auto pilot from airplane.

Surely you can't be serious.

It's a slippery slope. We human beings love to take shortcuts that cause us to miss the point of taking the journey.

Which is why I refuse to drive a car with "drivers aids". Sure makes carjacking easier if you just have to stand in the road and have the car stop itself.

Create a thread stating how you'd like to play the game, stand back and watch as a host of people tell you how you are wrong and that you can't have something you'd like and would improve your experience that wouldn't effect their own game-play at all. Wonder why they've decided to add their input to your thread. Scratch your head and ponder on the moribund nature of society and the human experience.

Yes, I'd like auto-pilot as well.

In fact I'd like my whole ship's API opened up giving me the ability to write scripts as I see fit that control it. But that's perhaps off-topic.

Why not cut the chase and give everyone 10 Billion Credits?

Personally I'm not interested in seeing an autopilot introduced, but I understand why others want one. Will have to wait and see if Frontier thinks it fits in with their intent for the game.
Even if one was added you wouldn't be forced into using it, so you can't lose.

I would not mind auto pilot with a twist.... I want the ability to use the other seat.... have that be the science station or galactic net reception station... that way I can go over to it and do my science work too.... Then set way points on my navigation screen from the other seat (not pilot seat), where the auto pilot flies the route.... Similar to General aviation autopilots now. This would make interdictions interesting, as an auto pilot would only submit to the interdiction....

I wouldn't mind an autopilot that makes you jump out of SC automatically when it says "safe to disengage". Or when you do exploring and select a planet/star/whatever which is thousands of ls away just make it jump out when you reach the object and throttle to zero. Maybe even something that keeps you straight on target and fights gravitational pulls from space objects. Basically an autopilot for supercruise because supercruise is boring. And please have it as standard on every ship and don't put it as a separate module because my 1300 year old toaster could do that job. You don't like it? Turn it off!
