Timed console exclusive content coming!

but I glimpsed some new content coming to Xbox One at launch that will make the PC crowd jealous even though it's only a timed exclusive.

And confirmation: https://twitter.com/michaelgapper/status/586841160318062593?s=09

So I have to ask here, is there any other reason for selling out to Microsoft other than screwing over the PC players and getting some of those anti-consumer exclusivity big bucks from microsoft?

There's absolutely nothing pro-consumer about paid exclusives. The game is already painfully devoid of content and now Frontier is going to withhold some of that content just because microsoft wants to sell some consoles? "Console porting wont be bad for PC players" I remember hearing. Or at least something close to it... Yup, clearly that's the case.

Extremely disappointing if anything other than small things are going to be kept from PC players due to microsoft's ("we really care about PC gamers more these days") money.

Im gonna leave my pitchfork in the shed until we know what that content is, might be just something like built in voice control via kinect. I highly doubt they are gonna hold back major content for PC for long.

If there is anything that the media has really driven home in the last six months, it's that they absolutely thrive upon outrage. So devoid are they of literary and analytical skill, not to mention the lateness with which they report on stories, that they have to resort to this. I would be surprised if this gated content amounts to little more than skins or a few exclusive missions.

Please OP, let's not stoop to the level these "journalists" would have us meet them at!

"on-foot activities including FPS combat" .... y-yeaah, okay. We saw how well that turned out in previous spaceship games, right?

I said that it's extremely disappointing if anything other than small things are going to be exclusive.

If it's just small things then the situation is merely disappointing.

Either way exclusives are always bad for the consumer.

Well if Microsoft paid for the exclusive contents, they get to do whatever they want with it. It's only timed exclusive anyway, doesn't matter much in the long run.

indeed. I'm sure if valve offered them lots of cash, steam would get some kind of exclusive content ....etc etc. Backers got exclusive content for investing extra. No sense in caring too hard about it. They'll be playing on an xbox ... easy kills.

So they're(FD) probably getting a signing bonus for geing Xbox's NMS equivilant and getting paid for each Xbox sale AND probably getting paid foe the timed-exclusive bonus content(wich many will buy just because they wanna be able to say "in yo face pc" for the short time it'll actually be console only) all of which will go towards improving ED as a whole, and you complaining instead of laughing at the idiots who'll think they're special for getting something a lil early?

From your link
@fgalv No worries. As David said at GDC to - I think! - Digital Spy and a few others, there’s stuff that will debut on PC too.

Funny how you're not complaining about that. You mention how exclusivity is anti consumer yet only mention a PC viewpoint. Hmmmmmmmm.

Good for them. Hope the new content is fun, and we won't have to wait too long for it :)

Struggling to understand why anyone would be upset about this.. Seems horribly over-entited to complain about not getting ALL THE THINGS NOW!! It's only going to be delayed for PC, big deal.

I am expecting arena modes with leaderboards and achievements for XBox. I think they make sense on console and are relatively easy to switch on and off. Its a good opportunity for FD to test out the mechanisms for controlling things like payable expansions which some players will not take.

Another great news for someone like me who thought he is backing a PC simulator...

I hope you are right.

My money is on a few ships coming to the XBox exclusively for a couple of months. But it could be absolutely anything.

Whatever it is, people should be thinking "good we gain some additional content due to the XBox licensing" rather than "bah someone else gets the content first". If time-limited exclusivity is the way that FD fund the addition of whatever new content/features this turns out to be then so be it.

If anything, time limited exclusivity feeds into the psyche of most console users who think they have to own everything a game can offer while believing that they are getting an excellent offer. So let's see if it's worth getting hot under the collar for folks! :)

However, FD doing over PC owners by selling out? Sign me up to that bandwagon! ;)

Same here, plus maybe an expansion of the training missions to some sort of story. No big deal as far as I'm concerned. I waited 30 years for the game to get off the ground, plus a couple of years once the Kickstarter got going, so I have no problem with waiting however many weeks or months the Xbox exclusive content takes comes to the PC. I have a feeling the Xbox and PC/Mac versions will be separate Galaxies so I don't think the Xbox peeps will affect 'our' game in anyway.

I genuinely don't understand why anyone cares about this kind of thing. So the Xbox gets a thing a month or two earlier than the PC. Are people really so wrapped up in themselves that they can't just shrug and get on with life? It's all so petty and minor.

The Microsoft money means one simple thing - the continued existence and development of ED. That's fine by me and I'm also pleased that people who can't afford a very expensive gaming PC get to play the game.
