Proposal Discussion Should I upgrade to "Founder"?

A self-indulgent proposal I know and I already have the Premium Boxed set an'all but I am pondering upgrading to "Founder" really just to reflect the hundred ney thousands or hours I've probably spent in my youth playing this masterpiece and reflecting this on the side of my shiney new ship (so everyone one knows!).

It doesn't seem that popular as there's loads of spaces left, but, should I upgrade? Is it worth it? Maybe it's just pure vanity? But even so who cares?Perhaps it'll help DB and his chief Grpahic Artist have an extra brandy over Xmas...who could argue with that. Perhaps that Brandy will inspire a whole new class of ship that will go on to define the genre as it's new signature ride...or maybe I'm kidding myself - it is quite alot of money!

Anyone have a good reason...?

you could buy an additional download pack and then, hopfully run 2 windowed games at once.... there could be various new tactics come from it :)

but no i dunno why one should spend so much money for a game except you want to have a dinner with DB and tell him your ideas yourself :)

A better investment would be a second account backed at £80 level. You could gift it to a friend at a later date as it'll give them a digital download of the game, all the bits n' bobs that come with it, and crucially free lifetime expansions.

I don't think it'll be available after today.

Nope. for the extra I don't think its worth it for a badge and a few discounts.

Sadly I concur .. The game is funded so the extra money isn't needed and what you receive over the 80 version (or 90 - forget which - the one with all expansions ) seems about right.

Well If you like a shiney gold badge on your ship.. think of the kudos in a years time! .. but otherwise no:cool:

Given my intended trade perhaps discrete and low profile would be better than "over here" Bling! Don't wanna be 50 Cent Ganster Pirate with me blinged out Viper Mk II!

Well time is ticking away and the option may be gone soon. Unless someone can confirm that it will still be available after the change. As yet we still don't really know what benefits being a founder might bring.

Perhaps it will just be a shiny badge and some discounts though there are hints of early access to Elite rank missions i.e. Founders may not have to reach Elite to be offered those missions. That may be a double edged sword as potentially you could be getting involved in missions that you're not really ready for.

In the end it's your money and your choice. If you can easily afford it then why hesitate. If you have to think hard about being able to spend the extra money it would be better to save your money. It's all a bit of a gamble. At the moment there is nothing compelling about being a founder and some have even suggested it may be a negative thing (founders being targeted). Only Frontier know for sure if it's worth it and maybe they haven't decided yet.

We'll, we know some of the benefits - you're treated as if you were Elite by the NPCs so there will be a much larger and richer series of missions to chose from. There should also be small perks like cheaper repairs, plus as you said a gold badge.

There may be more things - only you can decide if that's worth the extra.

Disagree, i like titles, ranks, and particularly shiny badges(the magpie in me!) of course it dosnt add any skills to ones self, but kinda nice knowing there wont be many Founders amongest the multitudes(and off course a few perks to for being a Founder)

and yes maybe a vain badge but we are all here for different reasons game-play wise, some will take no notice of Founders and others will(even target them! the dastardly fiends!)

If tight on the money no, if your vein and do have the money yes ;)

I had the exact same dilemma on Friday. I had paid for the £80 tier which definitely seems to be the most cost effective, then I thought I might as well put in an extra £20 for first round beta and the physical rewards, and then I spent ages agonising over the £50 tier.

From what we know at the moment, I think the in-game benefits sound incredibly minor and probably are not worth it. Perhaps the benefit will become clearer over time, although I would guess (and this is just a guess) that any extra content in terms of missions and so on will not be massive, since only a small percentage of the gaming population (founders and those who have hit Elite ranking) will ever see it.

For me at least, the decision to take the plunge and make the upgrade was an emotional one rather than a calculated risk/reward decision. It looks from your post that it may be the same for you. As a teenager I must have sunk hundreds of hours into this series of games. I've waited a long time for the release of this game and what I have seen so far I find very exciting. To be a part of it and contribute, even in a small way, is it's own reward. It is a lot of money to spend on good feelings, but I can afford it and I have in the past dropped a similar amount on a bottle of Scotch, which ultimately is just liquid good feelings. I suspect the pleasure I will get from this game will last me longer

If you have money, do not hesitate to become a founding member. As others have said, discounts, additional missions, the gold badge. And who knows what Frontier reserves at the founder members the following years? for the planetary landings, for example, there could be secret bases of the founding members with meetings.

I am probably in the top 50 pledgers, but I did it to get the game funded. I wouldn't necessarily say that I got good value for money in a materialistic sense, after all, if you got back what you pledged, then you really haven't added anything.

So if you're looking at the founder level as a purchase, then no it's not worth it. If it's a token of appreciation and support, then go for it :)

Perhaps the best usage of my cash would be to gift a couple of extra commanders (I have a pair of nephews ignorant to the life of Commander Jameson) - and wish them a good voyage!

Upgrade to Founder

I confess I didnt pledge until it looked certain the kickstarter was going to make it. There, I've said it. However, what with listening to Lave Radio and Escape Velocity, reading the Forums and FB page my younger son has become interested in the game. He committed some of his own Xmas money and pledged explorer through my Paypal. This is all relevant to upgrading to Founder which I did a couple of days ago. When I asked him he wanted to do like wise he said he didn't feel eligible as he had never played the original games and just wanted to earn his own way in the game. AWWWWWWW.:D

I too did not pledge for the game until october
I heard about ED in Febuary but having lost my job I did not have the money,
so as soon as I got myself sorted out went in a federal trader then shot straight to alpha tester!

Cool kid!...but tell him he would be a welcome and honorary member to the Founders group with an attitude like that, its not a condition that anyone had had to have played previously anyway, go on! give him an excellent xmas present ;)

Upgrade to Founder

Since he pledged his own money originally I could see my way to backing him to Founder level but on the other hand I might need somewhere to hide from his itchy trigger finger. I can see that there may be some friction in the building of our trading empire in the future. He is a fully paid up member of the "twitch" generation after all.

Was considering going to Alpha but when asked if I could use his Toshiba Qosmio laptop to play the answer was a resounding NO. So stuff him
