Please don't release alpha yet

Hi frontier developments,

We recorded a podcast at the end of last week and the editing won't be finished until Wednesday. Obviously I'm not going to have much motivation to get it finished and released if I'm busy playing the alpha.

Therefore I recommend you don't release it until Thursday.

(My wife is out of town until Thursday so releasing it tomorrow would be perfect!! :D )

Lol. Well I'm going to be very surprised if it's released early this week. Call it a hunch... I mean, I hope I'm wrong of course. :)

I expect there will be come communication from FD before the Alpha describing the process, how backers will acquire the software, bug reporting procedures, etc. Since we have not received any of that yet, I think Alpha is not forthcoming *soon* (as in next couple of days).

Based on how sneaky FD have been with their updates I rather expect them to send out an update that seems to be about something totally different and then at the end (with very small letters) write:

"Oh, by the way, those of you with alpha access can get a hold of the first build here -->"

:D

And personally I don't think we will get any "warning". The next major update will be them announcing the beginning of the Alpha phase. I mean, they have already said several times that alpha will begin in December. Another update with them saying it yet again would just be weird IMO.

I can let you off I suppose, editing must be a royal pain with 3 fans talking about ED.

hmm. most where released at Thursday if I remember correctly.

I have a feeling well be downloading a p2p to spread server strain.
also because of the nature of the build.
its going to be a tense week. :rolleyes:

Lately the updates have been all over the place... ;)

Downloading the Alpha will most likely be from their new store, which probably is the main reason for launching it now. They want to have a secure way of handing out the builds to us which they are in control over. Maybe they might use some form of P2P for spreading the load, but I think a "normal" server should be able to handle roughly a 1000 alpha backers anyway.

Without wishing make enemies, I think Alpha will be released for the 3rd week of December. They will open the new store in 1-3 days, and leave the time for the new buyers of Alpha

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Just because the new shop site will be up on the 9th doesn't necessarily mean the first alpha build will be there immediately.

I'd think FD are probably looking at a pre-Christmas release, but not right on Christmas eve either in case there are any serious initial issues with the alpha. So some time this week, maybe early next week, and coinciding with the next update seems likely.

Mind you, I'd be delighted to be proved totally wrong and have it available in a few hours!
