Elite boring?

What confuses me so deeply is that so many people in this thread seem to think that "well, I'm having fun, you must not be trying hard enough" is a valid argument. Sorry, but no - your experience of having fun does not invalidate my or anyone else's experience of not having fun. Don't get me wrong - I don't resent the fact that you guys seem to be enjoying yourselves. At most I'm a little bit envious, since you guys seem to be getting your £40 worth. However, no matter how many of you are entertained, I - and, apparently, quite a lot of other people - am not. Call me entitled if you want, but I paid £40, and I'm not getting £40 worth of entertainment, a commodity that, having paid that price, I feel that I deserve.

Nope, I don't think that you're not trying hard enough. It may be that I'm easy to please. ;) Different people enjoy different things, it's as simple as that. If the game doesn't currently offer you enough enjoyment, then the only thing I can suggest is to leave it alone for a bit and test it out again after the next update (rinse and repeat as necessary).

I've bought many games that other people have said are absolutely awesome, and have had very good reviews. And after a couple of hours I've never returned to them (Sunset Overdrive was a good example of this... Pointless game :) ).

What this game really needs right now is Aliens, (Thargoids).

This would make exploring both interesting and dangerous if you never know when you are going to come across alien stations or fleets out in the far reaches of space, wrecked ships to salvage and the many other cool things that this could bring to the gameplay.
For me just flying round seeing only planets ect, is just totally boring now.

Yeah, there is nothing better then a 3 month deep space trip to get shot on the last day and loose all data :D

I tried exploration too. It bored me more then trading. Never had the feeling to explore something, exploration in ed feels like entering the same room over and over again with the same chairs in different postions. Iam missing the feel to explore something. Iam missing the feel to make a step by doing this. Maybe planetary landing could change something at this.

I've been playing the game for a week, it seems there's nothing to do except farm.
Either by fighting random wanted enemies or by trading:

Trade rout: Trade > earn enough to upgrade > buy a ship with more storage > repeat

Fight rout: kill wanted targets > upgrade modules / ship > kill wanted targets > repeat

There's really no sense of progress except farming money.

There's no real exploration, nothing new to do...

OP's face is boring.

(By the way, it's "route.") You're welcome.

If you don't like exploring, don't do it. Many of us do enjoy it. And while I agree it would be good to find truly strange and rare occurrences, I have faith that such things will appear at some point, but FD are quite rightly concentrating on other areas right now. And in the meantime, exploring is still a perfectly enjoyable pastime.

The problem is that due to the extremely simplistic and easy gameplay the game is no challenge at all. As far as the immagination comments go. Suspension of belief is not possible due to many outright stupid design decisions like being trusted military officers in oposing factions, or the compleat lacking of any real justice system.

Oh yes You and I are both entitled. We payed money for a promised service. That alone is entitling us. Isn't that the basis of a capitalist economy?

No, to be clear about this, that is your problem. It is subjective, and many people don't agree. I'm not one to say use your imagination - I agree, you shouldn't need to. I don't, the game does that for me.

You believe that the game is boring and badly implemented. I believe that the game is exceptionally well done (the level of detail when you look into various implementations is excellent), has some irritating (but generally minor) bugs, but will continue to be developed. We probably don't have a middle ground. Were this another game, and our positions were reversed, I'd have moved on. Why waste time on something that you aren't enjoying?

I have to agree with being bored with it now, been playing since December and it finally hit me.

Funny I don't remember getting bored with the first Elite?.

So you are saying I should shut up.
Oh I agree that it is my problem. And unlike you I am really really glad that you enjoy the game. Good for you. I just do not understand why do you waste your undoubtly valuble time talking to a nobody like me.

Why do I post? Why I am entitled to post. I also am a beliver in the potential of this game. I also care for the experience of other players. Finally I am responding to the claim that this a complicated simulation game.

Do all games need to be a challenge though? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your assessment of Elite I'm just asking if is it absolutely necessary for a game to be a challenge for it to be enjoyable in all cases? I don't believe it does personally.

I agree that there are a lot of holes in Elite as it currently stands but I'm confident that the majority of them will be filled in time and I'm currently enjoying the game very much even in it's current state.

Minecraft is 'boring' if you want to look at it that way : "all you do is stack blocks".

Elite is about making your own adventure, your own way through the galaxy, if you have little imagination, drive or patience, this game is not for you.

You are reading things into my post that I neither meant, nor implied. No, you don't have to shut up, and I am not saying I want you to. You can post what you like, where you like. I am a great believer in freedom. ;)
What you will find, I think, is that if you post suggestions about how the game can be improved, rather than comments simply dismissing it as boring, then you will get much better responses in return. The impression I've got from your posts is that you think the game is awful. As I said, if I thought that I wouldn't be here. I am here because I enjoy the game and actually want to participate somewhat in the community. I'm a nobody, just like you.

Someone said exploration is like entering the same room with the same furniture but with the chairs moved around. Now that's funny. I had explored a system with 2 suns and about 35 other astronomical bodies. Jumped into the next system and the main star was found automatically, of course, but when I did a ping with the ADS it found 2 unexplored bodies. It was trianary system with no planets asteroid belts; nothing. The stars were even scoopable. So I guess they just threw all but 3 of the chairs out of that room, right?

I do agree we need aliens (Thargoids, maybe), but as far as we know, there may be some. Although not in the arm of the galaxy we are currently in. For all we know there may be, somewhere far, far out some life that they've put in. And if this is the case, I would expect this to be a closely held secret among a select few (2 to 4) members of the Dev team. After all there is about 864,000,000,000,000 cubic light years of space in the Milky Way galaxy. I'm not saying FD has done this with putting one or more alien species way, way out. I'm simply saying it's possible. And don't even ask FD. At best you'll get "play and find out". But even that would surprise me. I would expect them to say "No, we haven't gotten that far yet." And even if it's true, most would actually believe what they were saying.

We need some new game, MMO possibly, coming out, so the people who are bored can go troll somewhere else.

Very well said. This game is for people who haven't got their imagination (and synapses) cauterized by "modern gaming"
If you find the game boring do what NORMAL people would do: move along

Hello there

Im a huge elite Fan.

Im starting to become a little bored as well. (Albeit after more than a few weeks!).

However, Im greatly looking forward to 1.3 and the changes it will bring.

Remember though, most games are simplistic and one can boil even the most popular games down to their bare minimum.

Skyrim? All you do is walk bout and kill things and read books...BORING!
GTA? All you do is steal cars and commit crime...BORING!
All flight sims. All you do is fly...BORING!

Ok, a little extreme but i see similar arguments leveled at ED.

Yes, ED does need a little *more* in today's market but that appears to be on it's way.

If one is "bored" simply hang up your goggles for a bit and play something else.

It's what I do.

Rgds

You know what? On some level I completely agree. It does not need to be complicated to be fun, nor it needs to be challenging. I am merely responding to the outrageous claim that this game is a complicated simulation (as it does not need be at all).

Done that. Meaning posting meaningful suggestions. I got the same replys. Go away not interested in your view. Your entitlement cultures is what is killing the game you want immediate gratification, you do not know how to play, if you cant play a complicated game don't play it, and finally use your imagination. Then there are precious few who really want to engage with you, and we had great conversations but they are the exception.

Yeah, that's about the gist.

I agree with what he's saying to a point about being bored. I mean it's fun to fly and explore, but it's missing something immersive to make it complete. It has other people, but they don't interact. For example, Everytime I flew into a station or system in EvE, the chat box was alive with people asking questions, giving tips, recruiting or just talking about nothing. I spent countless times just sitting in a station and chatting away with people across the world. I've gone to a few large coriolis stations with 10 or more contacts and nobody talking. Obviously Devs can't fix that but I'm speaking from a gameplay experience POV.

Another game I REALLY loved was Homeworld 2. I NEVER played it online but not only was it beautiful to look it, at kept me involved with a wonderful storyline campaign. I feel like Elite Dangerous is somewhere in limbo. NOt quite full imersive MMO but still not quite a fullflling story either. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but as it stands now, missions for me are just go to station, look on bulletin board, launch and go look for a USS. Rinse repeat. It gets a bit old and predictable I thrive on the unexpected. Yes EvE has mission set up nearly the same, but the differencce was, if I wanted to I could actively seek a coroporation and start mining or fighting PVP within minutes. I cant do that here. I feel it's difficult to connect with players here. The most interaction I see is people complaining about the pads being filled up.
