Newcomer / Intro Level 2 & 3 Detailed Scans

Can't figure what's required for Level 2 & 3 detailed scans

I have Advanced Discovery & Detailed Surface Scanners.

I do the discovery then target and scan the individual systems, but my stats don't seem to show anything coming up as level 2 & 3...

Do these only come up on certain types of planetary body?

Is there some additional procedure required to go to level 2 & 3?

What gives?

My guess is:

Level 2: Scans taking place from very low orbit or potentially atmospheric flight above the surface (when that comes along).

Level 3: Groundscans, maybe probes that you place into the ground when planetary landings comes along.

Anything updated on this? I just started exploring around the inhabited space and when I came back I saw I had 129 Level 2 Detailed Scans and 0 Level 3 Detailed Scans. Now, if those are not implemented yet, why am I getting them on the stats page?
Worth mentioning I only did basic scans before. just bought the advanced discovery and detailed surface scanners TODAY. Those 129 Scans were made tonight :S.

Possibly, level 2 scan is your Discovery scan and Level 3 scan is your Detailed Surface scan. Have you not scanned planets up-close yet?

now I see I have 2 level 3 scans and 170 level 2 scans.


I've scanned 100's of unknown/undiscovered systems but I never bother to scan the asteroid belts or previously discovered planets, so I presume you have to scan the entire system to get a tick in the box, guess that's why I only have 2!


Level 3 = full system scan with the DSS
Level 2 -=full system scan without the DSS


I will test this by going out and scanning bloody everything in an undiscovered system with a DSS when I get a chance

Yeah, I've scanned thousands of systems now with advanced and detailed surface and my Level 3 is still 0.

It's either a future implementation or a bug.

Whatever has been said,

What i get from scanning then selling info is that
- Level 2 increases by 1 for every Detailed-Surface-Scanned bodies.
- Level 3 never increases.
- Surface scan without DSS or with DSS deactivated does nothing to L2/L3 Scans.
- Discovery scan changes nothing to L2/L3 Scans.

I now have 1892 L2 Scans & 1910 L3 Scans for 4400+ visited systems.

Like Protecter said, I thought this was what the different scan levels were. I have hundreds in all three levels, but until 1.2.07 I had 0 of Level 2 and Level 3 scans. I haven't personally tested these figures, so I'm inclined to believe Michael. That may be how they're intended to work, at least.
