Newcomer / Intro Feedback from potential customer

Yeah so I've been watching closely but I didn't even buy E:D yet because there's a huge, huge turnoff for me. It has been discused many times but this game lacks any social tools. Yes, I've heard about the Wings update, but that's simply not enough. I want to be able to form an organization of players, but there are no tools to support that. I want to trade with other players, but there's no way to do so. I want to help my organization grow in power and prestige, because this is what gives a sense of meaning to what I'm doing. And I know from personal experience with other games that if there's no sense of meaning then even the most innovative game will make me bored quickly.

Look, you have the entire Milky Way to play with, but it's empty. There's noone to harvest it, noone to say "this is mine, I have taken it. It's the measure of my power". There are factions nobody really cares about as the only thing they really do for you is giving you some boring quests. With that much space avaiable, why not to allow creating an organization of players(a corporation) and allow them to own a planet or other stellar body and harvest resources they could then trade with other players/planets/corporations? Why not to allow them to build their own space station and collect fees for landing? Or an orbital shipyard that allows to build capital ships? There's so much potential when there's 400 billion stellar bodies involved!

That said I'd really like to buy E:D simply because it looks fun. But I just can't. Not without basic social tools. Creating a corporation is the bare minimum for me, otherwise it just won't work. If it gets implemented I might join in, otherwise I'll probably wait for Star Citizen to launch sometime in 2016.

It's funny how E: D becomes E:D

Fairly sure that what you demand is specifically excluded from the ED strategy.
The game is not about Individual or Group Power

Hope you find the game you want

In all honesty, this game isn't the one for you then.

What makes ED strong is the fact that you are only a pilot and not able to form corps or own stations.

Sure, there will be more content added over time but to ask for these things is to fundamentally challenge one of the key design decisions of the game.

Sounds very much to me as if you want it to be something that it's not.
Most of us play the game for what it is and what it might become. If you do decide to buy the game you should be aware of it's limitations and enjoy it for what it is.
A lot of us players remember the original, we remember a single player game that absorbed our attention whilst thinking "this game would be amazing if the 'other' ships were really other players" - and now... they are.

I cannot advise you to buy or not buy based on what you have written, what i can tell you is that if you like games with some kind of Eve or Couterstrike 'steering' then ED is not for you.

Good luck and if you decide to buy/try it, we look forward to welcoming you into the galaxy :)

Well, that's a shame. Why do you need 400 billion stellar bodies if you can't even use any of them? Are they just supposed to be a nice background ? That's silly, you will never manage to visit all of them anyway.

Frontier (in general) said it quite clearly there is no intention of adding corporations/guilds etc. functionality to the game. You never know, they may change their mind in the future, but I wouldn't expect it to be anytime soon;)

So you sign up to ED forum to rant about what it's not, just to let the community know you won't be buying/playing?
Really?
Oh man....

All of the things identified as missing are the reason I bought ED and have avoided other games that provide those things. Not sure what the benefit of copying other developers would be here.

Cut the OP some slack. It was an honest bit of feedback, asking about a feature that is important to him. I didn't read it as a rant, just some disappointment.

Myself, I'm NOT into the big social scene and have no interest in forming or joining a huge guild/corporation. I like being just a guy with a ship, trying to make a living for myself in the galaxy.

It wasn't a rant, just feedback. Rant is something like this: "whoa this game sux ballz I honestly sympathize with anyone who bought this piece of crap". See the difference?
As to why I signed in just to post this... it's because I thought that maybe they will add some of this functionality to the game. After all it's an MMO and there aren't many MMOs that don't even allow you to create guilds. Seriously, if it had something like this I'd 100% buy it. But since it doesn't I just can't quite see the reason I shouldn't wait for Star Citizen. To me it has everything E: D has and even more, everything incredibly polished. The only reason I looked on E: D in the first place was because it has this huge galaxy-sized map, but if it's just for gigs then meh.

Yeah, so we'll see what Frontier will choose to do.If they add more social tools - count me in. But if they don't... then I wish you all good time and lots of fun.

Now I suddenly have the urge to go to a random MMO forum and demand features that are not part of the game.

"Hey guys this game is cool and all but why can't I play as a Velociraptor? Velociraptors are cool... you should totally be able to play one."

'ummm this is a steampunk roleplaying game, I dunno how Velociraptors fit into the idea behind it..."

"Well ok that's fine and dandy, but if you could play a Velociraptor, I would totally buy it. I dunno why they don't implement Velociraptors as a playable race... everybody loves Raptors... they are totally rad! I'd buy the game if I could play a Raptor, but without Raptors... meh... not really my thing."

:D

Thanks. I'm having an absolute blast exploring the galaxy. Enjoy SC!

Edit: v1.3 newsflash - New ship, the Velociraptor. You heard it here first ;)

It's funny how many people come and talk about how much they like the look of ED and then demand that it be changed to something which fundamentally isn't ED. Try EvE Online.

Well, this is an MMO. Can you tell me straight out of your head any MMO title that wouldn't allow creating guilds? Because I can't. So I thought it's likely it will eventualy get implemented. Much more likely than implementing Velociraptors to a steampunk game... Especially since I'm not the only one requesting it.

:D

The key is to understand that it would be significantly more silly to build a sophisticated engine based upon what we know about the formation and structure of the galaxy, and then fail to use it to in fact create a model of the galaxy. As for manage to visit them you are totally correct, but why would that make it silly? It is of no (or negligible) more effort to FDev to create 400 billion systems than it is to create 10000. The "point" behind it is a mixture of endeavouring for an accurate model and to allow those interested in exploration and/or seeing astronomically interesting things to have experiences valid to them. If you don't fall into those categories then you will probably get no more utility out of the 400 billion systems than you would out of 1000 - but that does not mean the other three hundred ninety-nine billion nine hundred ninety-nine million nine hundred ninety-nine thousand are pointless! :)

I do agree that player communications could be enhanced but I don't believe in giving players the ability to own planets or build space-stations and suchlike....I think that's a road that leads to quite a different (and perhaps already existing...) game altogether.
