ok so I just saw the poll and honestly im pretty shocked that so many people do not wish for any "real" group content, just too say that up front sorry who will disagree. Also if I completely misread that poll then please correct me but the games universe is bloody MASSIVE! and also lets be frank atm there really isn't much to do that will really create "I was there" kind of events/stories. nothing to give the game some real challenging fame. so what my idea would be is that players could form up factions like system factions and depending on actions and "Faction orders" gain influence in systems, build stations and declare civil wars and so on. this I believe should be at least reasonable for FD to at some point hopefully soon implement, but from going back too that poll it sounds as if a majority of the players do not wish for anything of a possibility like this. Now im not saying like bonuses to players ships (like being stronger) for being in a faction or OP ships that factions can research, though researching some stuff would be dope, im just saying giving something in the game too allow for a more active, close based community in-game would be lovely, pretty typical in massive MMO's like this one. cause lets be real who would not want to be like a general in some player navy declaring primary targets in a civil warzone and decimating opposing targets either they be NPC or players fighting in the name of their player faction gaining grounds to actually make a "story" political impact in the game. yes it begs the questions of OP dominating player power blocks or political OP game changing situations but things can be created to balance this. Simply put I'd like to hear your own personal thoughts on my idea and secondly vote on the poll on either or not we should have some more in-depth "player faction" content, or more "group" content, or simply nothing at all, and or finally other (if you say other please post your idea in the comments with at least some fair details so I may take a look at it and put my own thoughts along with for the others!

Sincerely, Competent Allied Emperor Dreamer Mr. Royal

ok so one thing I should also say that would be nice for me to know is: Why (if you say No (( option 3))) why you think this idea or anything similar would be a bad idea?

Well,to start off, it's useless to argue this because Frontier Developments have been unmoved since the beginning in their vision for the game, in that the player is a lone wolf trying to make his way in the world. The idea is that you are not important, you are nothing but an average Joe Shmoe pilot trying to get his next buck. If you have very well known players (such as faction leaders), this destroys that vision.

ok well in my opinion to argue your point is that just cause you start out as a nobody does not mean you cannot grow into something more well known. people change and the game should reflect that. if the devs cont. the current "vision" as you call it that little marketing foothold they have WILL crumble under them and I don't want too see that happen the game is a great contender but providing little to nothing for a massive social community is depriving the game to honestly be considered "persistent" players have no real impact on the games story/politics.

My example: you start off as a nobody flying a sidewinder, you make some cash and grow up into a vulture, you trade/bounty hunt ad gain some "trust" with some system factions, you cause/defend in a civil war maybe but once that's over it's over you reap no real benefits, recognition, or respect. you gain very little money from combat bonds so thus you move onto another system and keep making money till you get an anaconda. repeating the same bull. having nothing for players to really strive for that can change the news, political influence/choices or etc. in the game is a rigid, dead beat part of any "vision". People want to be powerful, rich, famous, known respected, influential, W/E. you see it time and time again in real life and a hell of a lot more in games.

So I got this game called "Golf" and I've played it. It's okay but I think it'd be much better if you could team up with 10 other players. Also, getting the ball to the hole isn't a really a challenge without an opposition so I think there should be another team trying to stop you. Obviously they'd need another hole to aim for so they could score points too. We'd probably need to make the ball bigger because those little dimpled ones will just get stuck in the turf if someone stands on one. We should be able to kick the ball too instead of using golf sticks.

Thinking about it the bigger ball won't fit in that little hole. Maybe some nets on frames would be a good idea.

I don't see how anyone could disagree that these simple changes would make everyone's experience of "Golf" better.

I mean it's 2015 not 1984!

And most people, are completely ordinary nobodies - like you or me. There are exceptions to that of course, but ask any group of completely ordinary nobodies who they think are the most influential, rich, and famous people of all time - chances are you'll be given a list of richer nobodies, or the most vile and disgusting examples of humanity that have ever, unfortunately, existed.

ok... I can tell you meant a point I there but I do see that your trying to offensive but simply too put your telling me you want NOTHING to do other players? cause if so then they should just utterly remove open play and multiplayer in it's self. if im wrong there correct me. but seriously it's not like my idea is meant to break the game or make it easier for people. it's meant to give the player more options, a chance for what they do to actually mean something or to actually make even the slightest of an impact on the games environment. im honestly very disappointed that that the devs and so far so many players truly want the game to be so barren social wise. It's as if they want all their time and efforts to be for naught.

yes to both in your statement but I just cant fathom at why people are so content on leaving the games society in such a barren wasteful state.

The poll spoke for itself.

Soooooo... lets start the merry go round again and raise the discussion again and raise the same old flamers and trolls again and raise the same arguments for and against... again.

See where I'm going?

Sorry. Im a burned out Eve Online player. If I want to return to mobs of psycopaths and sociopaths using blunt force to completely dominate the game and the metagame... I'll go back to Eve.

If I want to play an FPS space shooter with plenty of options including solo or groups with wings in a more mature environment that doesnt involve fun at the detriment of others; I'll stay here and play Elite:Dangerous.

Again. The poll spoke for itself.

Move on.

personally im a burnt out eve player my self, I quit the game almost 2 years im just lacking at understand why people so aggressively choose limit a game with so god damn much potential. besides it's not like players will always fight players the games "map" is bloody massive. it's a waste to have so many "unclaimed" system in a game if to a simple point will never be used, or truly respected. preventing players from creating their own stories in a game is denying them the right of potential creativity.

honestly im just very surprised and in shock that so many players want little to none social activity in the game or in a respectable way for what they do to essential be mindlessly wasteful. what they do is nothing more then to waste their time. I see a game world ED to be something of vision able dream where what I cannot do in RL could be possible in this games universe. where what I do actually does effect others around me, where I can actually mean something, what I do actually impacts what is ever in front of me. gives me a real challenge that I can share the experience with those who dare to call me as their friend or ally. it's disappointing too see that so many people do not share these some convictions as I do :'(

This is not that kind of game. There are already factions at hand, and they are there to shape the universe, as opposed to serve as useless fluff. We need more interaction with what is given, not more ways to ignore the way the game is set up.

Respectfully - the whole point of games is to waste time. If you want to affect others around you, buy your girlfriend flowers, take an old friend out to dinner, think of some deviously amusing entertainment to pull on someone at work, help a stranger, learn a new skill, volunteer for a charity, do just about anything else but play computer games - and you will have a real effect on the real world around you.

Also - I have had to review (and reject) CV's from people who have actually listed their WoW character (with full breakdowns) as a life achievement.

Okay, simple version: Elite is like Golf. Single pilots relying on their skill to survive and profit in the galaxy. They are judged against other pilots but the galaxy provides the challenges.

You want to turn Elite into something like football. The galaxy is less relevant. Teams are pitted against each other trying to control territory and score victories against each other.

Both are "ball games", both offer the chance to judge player against player (I don't know why you think any of this argues against multiplayer at all) but in the first the individual is primarily tested against environment and in the second it's team tested against team.

What you suggest is a fundamental change of the game. Most players (according to the last 18 months of discussions and polls) don't want those fundamental changes to a game they backed, bought and enjoy.

I understand by what you mean but do you have any possible ways that players could be more influential with the current factions and sub-factions that what is already there? pretty much giving players a chance for the hand with out actually giving them the hand seems to be nearly impossible with out allowing players even play on the same degree of field as the hand they are seeking the power from.

Who's aggressive?

ED is what it is. There can be fixes and updates and tweaks and the addition of content.

What you cannot change is the technical base the game is built upon. This impacts on multiplayer structure and future expansions.

FD are working on implementing changes to the faction system to allow players more access and the ability to have an impact. This is really about as far as it will go.

Player owned stations, political influence, control over systems all those goodies from Eve Online will be extremely difficult to implement, if not impossible without redesigning the game from the ground up.

As it is the best you can hope for is to just get out there and create content via alternate means and FD might sit up and notice. They have the power to put content in the game.

Eve online has the technical capabilities to allow players to run rampant And had the technical foundation from the start (mostly).
ED does not and wasnt built that way.

As for aggressive, im not aggressive, I feel sorry for players so obviously getting frustrated by a game that isnt meeting their expectations.

Stop bashing the keyboard. Go outside, get some fresh air, have a look on Steam for something else.
Come back and play Elite when the developers win 100 million on the lottery and can afford to build Elite: Dangerous 2 The Space Opera That Isnt Dune on a fully dedicated server with groups of developers and programmers poached from Rekjavik.

I look forward to new polls too. I dont think it will say anything new.

ok I understand what you mean better now, but to me multiplayer no matter what is team. yes you can do things on your own but in a game that to some degree is meant to reflect what the player chooses to do, atm have little too no impact. currently what the devs have as the "term" of multiplayer to what the games community is actually asking for is contradicting them selves.

Well, it's a game, first and foremost, and the way I play it doesn't feel like a waste of time to me, if it did I probably wouldn't do it. As to being able to achieve in a game something that I'm not able to do in real life, well, I can't fly a spaceship in real life, so this game gives me the chance to do that, and be a millionaire too. :) I'm sorry you feel disappointed that others don't share your vision, but actually it's David Braben's vision that really matters, and he (and FD) have been pretty consistent in maintaining that this is a game without player guilds and factions.

In a game like Elite, where you see so many people rattling off that they are RP'ing a psycho nutter who murders for no discernable reason? Team Psycho Nutter? If they only want to kill others who are not in their team, that's not exactly psycho nutter behaviour. It is simply Facebook Gangs in Space.

Players were never meant to dominate directly in this game, we need to keep that in mind. But there should be more variety and richness in how we interact with the world, in a group or otherwise. This will hopefully improve over time.
