So they can let their friends/family have the second character license free?
I doubt the majority of the community is willing to shell out $140 just to be able to have 2 characters.
Should be included and should be free.
Id have no objection to a secondary character being available if you are more that 1000LY away from inhabited space, only one character at a time and the primary is the explorer.
Seems a bit on the mamby-pamby side to me....
I'd say, no playing of any other game while an ongoing Elite game exists on your pc....
And if you are killed in game, your installation and account are deleted.
Its the only way to keep immersion.
Quite happily pay an additional £10 each for 2 more slots. I long to head off into the deep unknown, but not for weeks at a time with no option to do anything else. It's the only reason stopping me from making an explorer and heading off- the fact that once I start, my only option when I log in is to carry on exploring, and I might be in the mood for some trading or some fighting. It's a game, not a job, so I'd like to be able to do what I enjoy when I want to.
I am starting a long trip with my current character in Elite universe and probably "I will never come back". No... I am not going to explode myself, just to go back
to participate of some event in the populated universe and don't think that buying another copy under a different user name is a solution, at least not one that I would like.
For this case, I think that would be great if was added to the game, as soon as possible, the possibility of having one more character (one more would
be enough for me).
This way I could keep traveling far far away with one character, doing all the exploration that I want, without the fear to lose great things and moments
happening in the populated universe, for what I could use another character to participate.
It does not sound the kind of thing that never were brought before here, so, if it was discussed in the past and some dev already answered, sorry, I just missed that.
I understand where you are comming from, but this has been discussed many times and the conclusion is that multiple characters would be a really bad idea.

It degrades the immersion in the game. Part of your choice to go and explore 500000LYs away, is that you sacrifice some of the cooler local things in the populated systems. While I myself, give up seeing all the cool distant solarsystems that you get to experience. It's another piece of the game that makes you choose one way or another...sacrifice one thing to get another. I personally like the "one person, one commander" model.
For example... if you want to become a pirate and ruin your good name... it is something you have to calculate before you make that decision. If you had two commander slots, there would be a lot of people playing trader/BHer in one... and a pirate in the other. No thanks.

The only benefit I could see to having more than one toon is that my children could play a little. My main has been out int he void for some time, that's fine I don't mind missing anything cool back in the home worlds because I choose to go 20k LY away from there. I have no doubt eventually they will add more character slots or saves.

Seriously? You'd pay £10 for an extra character slot? I'm honestly slightly amazed, though not entirely surprised. It would be such a horribly cynical and disrespectful thing for Frontier to attempt to charge for extra slots. This is not a free game, we've all paid good money for it. Some of us have even paid extra for the 'privilege' of helping to alpha/beta test. Let's compare perhaps to a real F2P game, Path of Exile, where you are given 24 character slots to use. Very different game, I realise, but the point stands. Grinding Gear Games have not tried to gouge their players or sink to base money grubbing. For frontier to do so on a title priced in the AAA bracket would be disgusting. Don't enable them by saying you'd pay such absurd prices for something which should not be charged for.
