Strange Navy promotion mission

I just accepted a mission from the Federal Navy to source and deliver 4 tons of non lethal weapons. It's the first time I've done this sort of mission, so didn't really know what to expect. I didn't know if I was going to be told where to buy them or whether I had to work it out for myself.

I accepted the mission in a station called Kubasov ring in Lp 732-94.

I looked at the galaxy map and saw that an orange symbol had been put over this system. When I zoomed out, I saw the same orange symbol on another system and so thinking that I needed to go there to source the weapons I headed off. Once I arrived (it was a system Sionesta), I found that it also had a station called Kubasov ring. Is that why it also had the orange symbol?

Is this a bug?

Normally you go scrounge around for a base that sells the weapons and bring them back to where you picked up the mission to begin with. (If you're really lucky the base you're sitting in sells them itself!) If there is another marker over the other Kubasov Ring, then it probably is a bug. I'd think the mission destination marker would be based on a station ID rather than a simple name match.

Sounds like a similar bug to one a friend and I have both had where a mission marker pops up on the other side of the galaxy for no reason.

Yes. That orange marker is where you need to bring the weapons to, and it goes by the station name. There are some duplicate nbames, so don't go flying hundreds of light-years like I did for it! Just find somewhere that sells those weapons and bring em to the feds, dictatorships usually have good weaponry.

I have done a similar mission tonight only mine was for two tons of NLW. The system/station you accept the mission in is the one you need to return to to
complete it. Left hand panel is your friend!

You're looking for High Tech systems for the NLW preferably with populations in the millions. A stable government system is good.

I found mine 16ly from the station offering the mission. Got a rank progression for doing it too, which was nice.

Non-lethal weapons are usually sold in High-Tech economies. I find that going by economy type (rather than government type) works quite well.
Another way is to look at the desired commodity in the market of the station where you need to haul it to. If it is in demand, the info on the right will tell you where it's imported from.

One hint: non-lethal weapons are popular quest items; if you have space in your cargo hold, it's not a bad idea to keep a dozen tons of them. That way you can often "flip" a quest when it's given.

And it is possible you just had another, unrelated mission in the 2nd system.

Nope - I went there because I had incorrectly thought that was what I was supposed to do. Imagine my disappointment when I realised it had been a wasted trip.

Still managed to source the items and get back to the proper station in time to be promoted though......

Polyakov station at Duamta has the exact same issue. It has a twin around 150 LYs away. If you take a mission that uses that station, you will see two marks on the galaxy map.
