Traded in Clupper at NU

I was 1500LY from SOL, when I discovered that NU had Clippers on sale for 15M CR. I traded in my Clipper for a new one and got 4.2M CR back.

It was well worth me turning around for, as I made about 4.5M CR from my trip. Bringing the total to just shy of 9M CR.

Might head to Federation space to level up for Corvette before I go back out.

Overall, exploring was a blast, but the CR's were hard to pass up. It is free CR's!!!

Did you have to participate in the community goal to get the discount? Also, how long until it expires?

As far as I know, you didn't have to participate, and I think it's a 14 day run in total, so there should be about 12 days left? I'm not in the game at present to verify the time.

Edit: Checked the CG sticky at the top of the forum, it runs for 14 days, and is a 29% discount. Look for 'Citizens are meant to fly' on the first page of the sticky for details.

I'm not sure when it expires, and I wasn't willing to wait. Another CG's have ended early

I just bought my Clipper in Nu - the 30% discount was hard to resist. I was out in the black during the CG, so did not participate.

Once I had the new beauty, I walked around the ship, admired her and patted her on the nose. After that, I put her back in the hangar - not enough credits to kit her out reasonably. Well, in a couple of days...

Nice... although you haven't really made any money - possibly lost some overall - your clipper asset is now worth 30% less than before and if you ever sell it you will have to pay another 10%.

Effectively you have taken out a loan of 30% against your Clipper, the interest for which will only every be charged if you sell the ship, the interest is 1.5m (10% of the cost of your current clipper)

That doesn't make any sense. If anything, they'll lose less CR when/if they sell their Clipper since it cost 15 mil instead of 22. Rest of the assets don't really come into play, since a wise Commander sells/downgrades all their modules before selling the ship.

Kind of - although if planning to use it in combat, that low rebuy could make it a good investment. Doubly so if the ship never gets sold.

It does make sense, they have sold a 21m clipper already - if ever they were going to sell the clipper, a 10% hit would have to be taken so that's out of the equation. Now they have a 15m clipper.... 6 million in difference less the 2.1m cost of selling second hand ship... OP has released 3.9m from their asset.. However, if and when they sell they ship in the future they will have to pay 10% of the new clipper, another 1.5m... so the OP has released 3.9m of equity from their asset, with interest of 1.5m payable only if they ever sell the ship...

Agree it was a nice move, that released dosh may be able to work for the OP now to make him enjoy the game more and earn more money. I was merely observing that it isn't free money in case other readers decided to try something similar.

How is it not free money? I sold all internals, got 20.5M CR for the ship alone and bought a sidewinder for 28K. Then sold that for a 10K loss, but bought the clipper for 15M CR. once I bought the clipper, I repurchased all my internal compartments. At the same time, I was able to sell the new internal compartments for additional CR. another added bonus is that my insurance went down significantly too.

I took at 2M CR hit selling the ship, but made some of that up selling the new internal stuff. But, if I do sell it again, you are right, I would be out another 1.5M CR. Thus, I would have only made 500K CR on the ship transaction, not including internal stuff.

My net assets in game went up too.

If you never ever sell then it is free money -

forget the components for now, they are irrelevant.

forget the 10% loss for now, I'll come back to that.

you sold a 21m ship now you bought a 15m ship... your fixed assets have gone down by 6m at the same time as your cash going up. Not free money, just shifting from fixed asset to cash

If you decide to sell later you are only selling a 15m ship - not a 21m ship...

Ok so the 10% on the 21m ship is irrelevant because if you sell today or in the future you would always have to pay that... the additional cost is 1.5m when you eventually sell your 15m ship... so in this scenario the 5m or so that you got will have cost you 1.5m in interest.... not free...

Again to clarify - incredibly smart move if you never intend to sell your second clipper... Perfectly nice move if you intend to sell your clipper, just not free money.
