I feel like it's gotta be a war, that would make it easier for the deeper missions that they've announced and to me it seems very strange that were playing in a galaxy that is for the most part in a state of peace at least as far as the major factions go. And I think there will be battles for players to take different systems over in the name of their faction, hence powerplay.

Idk just spitballing but I think I'm at least somewhat close. Whatever it is I would really like to see some deeper faction play, I feel that's where the game is lacking right now for me at least, anything else is just icing

That's called community goals. Events/stories you can read about in Galnet news that in turn generates missions that CMDRs then can choose to take part in and influence the outcome of the story. AKA missions based on the in-game story = story based missions.

If you want the "cinematic" version you are never going to be satisfied here I'm afraid.
