Exploration - Can we please have something to discover ?

Exploration should have some purpose other than sticking your name on a planet.

For example.
Just imagine how cool it would be to be the first person to land on an alien world and discover a new creature whose pelt makes for a profitable new 'rare goods'.

Or Discovering a mountain made almost entirely out of platignum.

Alien races.

Ancient artifacts

Ruined cities.

All these things should be very rare indeed, but we need a reason to get 'out there'...

I have absolute faith that all these things will be coming in time.

Well, maybe not all...

I'm looking for a reason to come back to inhabited space at the moment, but none so far have been very compelling. :D

Exploration isn't a lovable career at the moment get some rest from it or take up a part time merc job.

Unless you like to repeat things over and over again. Actually at the moment everything in Elite is repeatitive

it's beta testing ... hur! No other explanation.

As explorers' we already have a reason for being in the dark.

Curiosity drives us to check out one more system.
We don't get interdicted every five minutes.
And we don't worry about profit margins.

But I will concede that we would love to see the content you propose which has been discussed by us all. I've said this before, the one thing I am alway looking for is the light on the dark side of a planet outside human space. I think there are a lot of people out explorering hoping for the same thing. :)

Elite, the final Frontier
These are the voyages of the starship nameless.
Its continuing grind is to
Explore pretty colored balls in space with random, sometimes nonsensical properties attached
Seek out "Water based life" tags
And new systems or regions with "Permit required"
To boldly go where someone may have gone before, but you don't know until you get there

Or you could do what I am doing. Creating a list of Earth-Like planets that I have discovered and saved on my computer. Logged 24 so far.
.
This way if they do come out with any form of planetary landing, more detailed scans, etc in the future I know exactly where to head off to.

In a universe that is vast -and shared- that would be incredibly unlikely. Lost alien civilizations would be vastly less common than earth-like planets, which would mean that the first CMDR to find one would be the only CMDR to find one, in dozens of real-years. Everyone else would be whingeing because they wouldn't find "their" alien species.

Actually having a universe full of space-junk and artifacts would be incredibly unrealistic.

That said, I think that artifacts near/in human space would be pretty cool. They couldn't be super important or valuable, though (after all, we pretty much know where every space artifact launched by humanity is, so far, and it seems unlikely that we'd suddenly start losing big ones like colony ships, etc) Small, still interesting, artifacts would be fun.

I screenshot the system map of every earth-like I find. That way, when planetary landings are possible, I can go visit "my" planets and micturate on them.

I have stated a number of times that I would love to have Random Exploration Anomalies, and I'd be happy with little oddities, curious findings, etc. Not necessarily secrets worth millions.

I do like exploring, I clear like it alot since I'm about 17 kly out. But it is the same thing over and over and over... apparently, at least for me, that is somewhat addicting. I'm content with the way it is, but I'd be delighted if they spiced it up with some mysteries.

I just flying out 600+lt years and putting my name to new found planets . Only use intermediate scanner so you have to use your eyes and find star systems .

Exactly what I'm doing, although you beat me slightly in the number logged. 'Only' 20 for me so far, but I'll be back out in the black soon to discover more :)

I have to agree with you on that point, playing Elite Dangerous always feels like 'beta testing' for some reason.

Probably because we all know the scope of the game is huge and potential for the game MASSIVE. Its never going to be finished and never will be finished, unless Frontier ran out of money!

And how you are so sure that some of the things that you asked for aren't already there and you and any other players just did not find yet?
