Has Sarah been a bad girl again? I think AI started ramming :)

Bigger ships merrily ignore me. They may not be deliberately trying to ram me at times but they could care less if they do. The smaller ships do try to avoid me and are quite good. It's hard for me to ram an Eagle or Viper even in a Vulture unless it's had the drives shot out. They quite skillfully slip to one side or another without looking fake or artificial.

I've been rammed by NPCs more than once in the past - not sure if by malice of sheer bad piloting (mine and theirs). ;)

I hate the way the small AI ships are programmed to know your ship control inputs as you give them so they can avoid you. I have had small ships I couldn't ram at ANY speed... even really slow. They know exactly what input i am giving all my thrusters and do the exact opposite.

I've noticed that NPCs in ships larger than yours will try to ram you on occasion. This doesn't happen to me much since I now fly a clipper, but in my Vulture it was a common occurrence.

That's been happening for a long time. I've had at least two ships destroyed because the AI panics and tries to run, and instead of turning away, they boost right into me.

I've definitely seen dying Anacondas and Pythons attempt to ram capital ships in conflict zones. I've also been rammed and severely damaged but I'm still unsure if it was intentional or not on the AI's behalf... either way, it made the fight more interesting.

Well, that's their excuse (and they're sticking to it) ;)

I was mining in my default ship on solo when an AI started mining directly above on top of me, I was getting a good haul out of that piece of rock (best part of the roid i could find) so I push into him to move him out of the way, few seconds later he is ramming back into me and doesn't stop ramming, no shields n down to 50% i turn n give a warning shot with my mining laser, instant Bounty on my head and than he starts shooting at me with a pulse laser. Did the AI Goad me into a fight?

I think the AI tries to ram you if it has a larger ship than you do. I haven't had this happen much in recent days after my latest hull upgrade, but Anacondas and Pythons still try for me on occasion.

In general, I find it much easier to ram even best AI than a competent CMDR that is paying attention.

It's not hard to have a pretty good idea what your opponent is doing, by watching sensors and your distance to them, or if you are facing them, by looking at their thrusters fire as they maneuver.

I've seen it three times on RES this evening, first it looked as accidental collision, but after third time I got suspicious, manage to record one
https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=p8qYQ99KjbU (look at the Viper there, it is not even trying to shoot)

Or maybe they are doing it for a while now and I haven't noticed?

There is an occasional hole in the AI combat logic that says if all else fails, fly straight towards the target. It'll be fixed for 1.3 as part of a combat AI update. Instead they'll try to shoot you, not ram you.
Usually smaller ships try their very best to avoid other ships. For a while larger ships completely ignored smaller ones, but on the last update I added a degree of combat avoidance to bigger ships.
Okay, it's Saturday morning and I'm going back to bed...

Having AI try to ram you as a combat tactic is kind of neat, actually. Will there be any room for this type of behavior at all? It makes sense for larger ships to use their superior hull and shields to their advantage.

This has been happening since January. It'll be nice to have them fight us with their guns instead of their hulls. :D

Too bad CS couldn't be bothered to refund my ships at the time. :p

Last night I saw an NPC Anaconda ram an asteroid. It was hilarity of the 'lol' kind.

Truth be told though, I never felt the AI was trying to ram deliberately.

Came across a nice little NPC trick last night. Don't know if it was a co-incidence.

Found a nice wanted Python in a RES. Opened fire on it. It ran away in a straight line. I gave chase. Strange, normally they turn and fire back. So I upped the engines and boosted to chase it. Put the brakes on at the last minute as it was leading me straight towards an asteroid. Close. Very close.

Haven't been rammed by NPCs in along while until the other night.

Was approaching the mailslot in my Vulture, when I got the Scanning warning. I went "whatever", as I wasn't smuggling (at that time :-D).

Suddenly, I saw the Police Viper come screaming towards me from the top left and crash right into me. I was like watching two bumper cars crashing into each other at top speed. Nothing happened except the outer ring of my shields became a little darker.

I think the "dedication level" of the cops while scanning could be dialed down a little :)
