Hostile with Federation

I have also been hostile with feds and ticketed problem but only since last update I was docked, launched then got 97.000 fine and shot at from cops and hostile

This! Just so very much this!
It wears a poor cmdr down eventually...

Ok this is ridiculous.

I've been playing since Christmas and have rolled my eyes at people throwing their toys out of the pram because of silly things they should've known before purchasing, or finding it too hard, or not having enough credits to rebuy their ship etc etc etc but federation suddenly turning hostile to me is RIDICULOUS !

I've never shot at a Fed ship, never been caught smuggling, never pirated, always helped the Feds in killing wanted folk etc and yet all of a sudden I'm an enemy!?

I did fail some missions which I did sincerely try in so some factions are a little bit upset, I did get caught 2-3 times with stuff I found in space (allegedly "stolen") but I've ALWAYS gone straight to the fed place and paid like a good little boy.

So for suddenly everyone in Fed space to hate me and want to kill me is INSANE and has ruined the game for me.

I don't know what i'm meant to do to get out of it. Reading the above it sounds like I'm screwed. I don't want to turn into a baddie, never have done, and it's absurd that the game should decide that's my only option. It sure sounds like some sort of a bug to me. Like, ships in Fed space show up as red and hostile even though I'm not carrying anything and am not "wanted". Feds start shooting me for no reason just because they (for whatever goddam reason!) have decided they don't like me. NO bounties, NO illegal cargo, NOT wanted, NOTHING AT ALL! And as I remain loyal and good I never return fire and always continue to help them out killing wanted people. This is beyond ridiculous. I would gladly pay a fine and say I'm sorry (for whatever the hell it is I'm meant to have done!) but there doesn't seem to be a way out.

Am I going to switch sides over this and join the hoards of dissatisfied Elite ex-players or is there an upcoming fix to this??

I am also having this same issue. I've been hunting bounties in Fed space, and I do see that my reputation with the feds is improving (little blue arrow pointing up), my reputation is still hostile. One errant shot during a dog fight with multiple ships should NOT net you such a severe penalty (especially when the fine was only 200Cr! (not 200K, just 200!)). That fed ship flew into my crossfire! Not my fault! :p I do get that I should have been paying better attention to what my bungled attempts at smuggling (ie. getting caught) were doing to my reputation (although I've paid off all fines immediately!), but it is exceedingly frustrating that one's reputation can go from fine to hostile so quickly, but then it is nigh impossible to change it around in the other direction. And many suggestions for improving one's reputation involve *MORE* smuggling, which has the potential to make your reputation even worse if you're caught!

I have been "submitting" to interdiction and scanning by the Feds, and I notice that they do NOT shoot at me when I do, which is nice, but I am not sure if this helps my rep at all (If not, it should though please!)

Has any one noticed the number of threads saying folk have become hostile with the federation and they can't understand why. I haven't seen a single one saying hostile with the alliance or empire

@Ben Ryder: Hmm, now that you mention it... right, no one complains about sudden inexplicable or overly harsh reputation losses with the other 2 factions. Do we have a nasty Fed-exclusive bug here?

I have an unfriendly Fed reputation, I was caught with "stolen" cargo in Gamma and dropped straight down from neutral to hostile. (it was bugged at the time and you got the full reputation hit intended for the cargo hold for each Cannister of stolen cargo). Some time later hostile rep made the feds open fire on me, so I scooted over to imperial space. Somehow it moved to unfriendly by itself afterwards without my travelling back into fed space.

Anyway now allied with imperials mainly from trading back and forth, thinking of finding a new route for myself in fed space and just letting trading back and forth gradually work my rep back up with the feds, kind of painless to move rep that way since it is just a side effect of trading as normal. Helps to have a large cargo ship of course.

I figure I will remain on my current imperial space routes until I have enough cash to finance a vulture and Fer De Lance in patch 1.2 though.

Looks that way. I had the same thing since Gama

Same happened to me

Where can I find Empire space?I'm hostile in FED space just because of scans with illegal cargo.Never shot FED ships but still after one scan I found out I was hostile! Everywhere I look it's Federation space!

Isn't this likely to be because the vast majority of new players seem to start in Fed space?

I have the same problem with acquiring hostile reputation with Federation. I don't understand how; I have been careful to avoid targeting anything other than wanted ships. Trading across Fed, Empire and Alliance space, it only appears to have gone hostile in Fed space. I have spent 3 weeks and lost 3 Asps (3.6M credits in replacement costs - not counting damage repairs crash docking hostile space stations). I have managed to go from Sergeant to Warrant Officer in the same time with no real movement in Federation reputation and to cap this the individual allied Federation groups have gone up and down (seemingly bearing little relevance to the quests I have completed (careful to do only quests for Fed-friendly groups.

This is seriously ing me off and I am getting close to going back to a game when the moderators give a damn. I have ticketed this problem twice and made a number of coding/gameplay suggestions to address this without any response. I see little point playing a game when you spend hours on boring quests for no reward (I could go and farm on world of warcraft for that).

The issue could be addressed by applying high risk/ high return quests for hostile rated players.

The ratio for recovering reputation to neutral could be improved (lower than gaining positive reputation).

A time decay for negative rank (old crimes forgotten!)

But above all simplify the system - each system have 4 or 5 factions; when you pick up a quest there is an alternative turn in (when you hit the ship in USS) plus illegal and stolen cargos affecting reputation, etc - this is too complicated

I note that no administrator or moderator has commented on this thread.

Guess the only thing they want from Beta Backers is their money! I am not particularly bothered about the credits (although it is a pain to go back and farm them). All I want is my Federation rep restored to neutral.

Went hostile with the Alliance a while back. I got scanned carrying what was allegedly illegal cargo (my lawyer says I shouldn't say anything else) and I used a local pirate faction as a punching bag without realizing that they were in fact the Alliance subfaction in the system. In the space of about 3 hours I went from neutral to hostile. Oops.

It took me weeks of running missions and bounty hunting to get back up to neutral, and even longer than that to get allied.

I was lucky - I had an alliance subfaction that was Allied before things turned ugly, so they only dropped down to unfriendly. I was able to start my road to redemption with them, running missions and doing charity work from there. Food runs and non-lethal weapons are great ways to earn goodwill.

After that, I docked at a bunch of Alliance platforms (not stations) where I could approach without getting shot. I ran every single mission I could no matter where it would take me to build up rep until I was allied with that sub faction. Wash, rinse, repeat in any Alliance system I could find. Do the same, but with the Feds.

Bounty hunting was also a big help. Find an Federation station with a resource extraction site. Kill only the targets that show wanted for that system. Don't risk killing any Fed friendly ships. For god's sake check the allegiance of the faction of every ship you target. If you accidentally destroy a Fed ship you'll knock yourself right back down.

Keep doing all of the above and spread it to as many systems as you can. If you try to grind your rep back up in only one or two systems, you'll never get anywhere. Spread the good deeds around.

Like I said, it took me weeks of hard work to get back into the Alliance's good graces. On the bright side, I made a ton of money doing it between the trading and bounty hunting. I bet you can do it with the Feds. Good luck!

I was hostile to the Federation, mostly because I ran a rep mission 'considered illegal' and after the third hefty fine on the return leg I just lost the plot and cleared the USS of busybody Security Vioers. Probably not a good idea, as a scanner full of red all the way to Empire space can be a bit nerve-wracking even if you do have a fuel-scoop. Stayed in Imperial space for a while, doing a bit of slaving (as you do). I eventually got round it by heading off to Sag A* whilst things cooled down, then sold all the data at a Fed affiliated Outpost. That got me friendly with the faction and unfriendly with the Feds, which at least gives me a chance to start working my way back into their good graces.

By looking at the posts it seems that issues isn't so much killing Fed aligned ships but getting caught with illegal cargo.

Whether this is a bug or by design is anyone's guess.

I am Allied with the Fed's and friendly with the other two. I mainly do bounty hunting and will kill wanted Fed ships and have no trouble losing rep. I never bother with a cargo rack so never get caught with stolen goods..

I'm going to tried and do just that, but it's kind of nerve racking everytime I have to go to a FED station to get cargo, I have to go silent running and if there are FED ships hope that the don't scan me because if the do I have to super cruise and try again. I haven't left the area around G-130-50 ,Eta Serpentis, RIsh this is where I've made good money so far. But I see it's going to be a bit of a grind. But going hostile for illicit cargo is a bit harsh!
