The Declaration

I Commander William Obtuse declare to forever more Fight to the Death (FttD) when in a combat equipped vessel in any reasonable* pvp situation (including random interdiction).

(exceptions being: jumped by a wing of players or being in a starting tier fighter and getting jumped by say a maxed out Vulture and above.)

If any of you dare make the Declaration in post and add FttD to your Sig.

See you in space. ;)

Well now, with all the threads of people getting upset about other players turning tail and running, I'm surprised no one has the gall to put up their honor :(

Also make use of this thread to call out the cowards who label themselves FttD but ran. (no being really mean just in a RP way for being a cowardly runner after declaring to fight to the death.)

That won't really fly here, no naming and shaming.

What happens when your combat fitted ship gets interdicted by something much bigger, or a wing. Surely there must be some sort of 'Brave Sir Robin' clause...

Only a fool would stay in a battle he knew he was going to lose just to satisfy some kind of honour pledge.

There's nothing wrong in disengaging from a fight you'll otherwise lose.

Oh, you're being deliberately Obtuse!

I just couldn't resist :)

What you're asking is: tell everyone you're not a cheat. And the fact is, that should be a given.

:D Yes, it should. Unfortunately, a lot of Commanders seem to think the current in game mechanics that (i hope) mistakenly allow you to submit to an interdiction and jump away damn near immediately, wing nav supercruise insta shield restore (bug? still no clarification on that), or just pull their plug to combat log (not the 15 sec timer, but yanking your cord to instantly disconnect), is frustrating to some players who want an honest to goodness pvp experience within the universe of ED.

And please remember people this is for people in combat equipped vessels, not those of you trading, exploring, mining, or in a multi role thats set up for one of those.
Oh and I should have been clear with my ign in my 1st post. you ll see me in your comms as Cmdr 0btuse (yes, with a zero, someone has the commander name Obtuse already :( )

The point of a fight is to come out alive or at least not to die pointlessly. If the best way to do that is not to fight, then that's what I'm going to do. I've had people berate me for running from their combat ships - don't interdict a purpose-built blockade runner if you don't want to be given the slip. Why would you interdict a Clipper expecting him to stand and fight?

Pretty sure he's saying that he will not disengage from combat even using legitimate means - jumping to SC, high waking, etc. - not merely logging out of combat, or the like. The notion that "discretion is the better part of valor" comes to mind, but hey, to each his own.

Again, this is for Commanders who play in combat equipped vessels, a blockade runner normally has paltry offensive capabilities but is strong on shields, speed, ect. And no there is no honor in standing vs a 1v3+ I'll re edit the OP to account for 1v1 matches or at least fair fighting ground, (no eagle vs an Annie either, unless you got some supremo confidence in your piloting skill)

My Clipper is definitely a combat vessel. She's just a fast one and I don't have time to square dance with every two-bit wannabe who decides he wants a piece of her.

Yes, I fly a nicely decked out Vulture atm, so no, unless I am jumped by a wing of FDL's or Annies I will stay and fight to the death.

I, Commander Somillian Caelum Astrus Hiigara do hereby solemnly pledge to not be a complete idiot and to fight when I can win and run when I can't.

First rule of combat: If it's a fair fight you've done something wrong.
Second rule of combat: Know when to run and fight another day.

Sun Tzu as usual puts it well

“Thus we may know that there are five essentials for victory:
1 He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.
2 He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces.
3 He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks.
4 He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.
5 He will win who has military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign.”

Knowing when to fight and when to run is the number 1 tactic

Guys, this is meant to be a way to add some extra fun/tension to open play, like never letting your self be scanned by authorities (whether legal cargo or not) always going top speed into stations, making one pass landing attempts, flying with FA off in asteroid fields, ect. please don't troll with snide remarks about how my decided play style makes me an idiot, this is for people who want to add an extra challenge to their play or think their top notch combat pilots and want to prove it. Thanks.
